Sorry, friends! Especially Ann who so kindly tried to find a reference in the Civil War records. I forgot to specify that it was the Revolutionary War that I was looking at. I searched on Brice COLLINS and was referred to records for that time period. But there didn't seem to be a way to locate the actual reference. And all I found by widely ranging spot searches was a reference to a John COLLINS (which happened to be Brice's father's name). Are the records not fully indexed? Do they refer only to surname? How would I find a specific battalion? Would appreciate any advice. Lorraine lorraineq@juno.com

I'm having a hard time figuring out how to use these resources. I know, according to a Pennsylvania Archives card, that my 4ggf Brice COLLINS served in the 4th Bn., 6th Co., from Cumberland County, under Capt. Jonathon Robeson. But I can't find him anywhere on the Ancestry site. Am I doing something wrong??? Lorraine lorraineq@juno.com

Hi Everyone, Elizabeth MCAULEY POTTER, my Great Grandmother, was born, married and died in Lewistown, Mifflin Co., Pa. She was b. 3/9/1860. She married Emerson POTTER. I have pictures of her children, my Grand mother and Grand Uncle(Gladys and Mahlon), at the "MCAULEY" camp. Her parents were Matthew George MCAULEY and Sarah Wallace BESHORE. I would be interested in sharing information with people who would know the McAuley family. Thanks, Susan **************Wondering what's for Dinner Tonight? Dear Mifflin County researchers, I am beginning to plan a week's trip to Mifflin County in June to do some intensive research and would greatly appreciate some advice about what records are available. Want especially to see the land records themselves, not just the indexes microfilmed by the Utah Genealogical Society. Are those still housed there? Aren't a lot of different Pennsylvania documents preserved in the Orphan's Court records. Are they also still at the courthouse there? Any other sources for estate papers, wills, etc.? Where is the Historical Society located? And does anyone know their hours of operation? Of particular interest to me are really early records...from the beginning of the county to mid-1800s. May also have to check out Cumberland if I can't find what I need in Lewistown. Would Harrisburg be at all helpful? Unfortunately, I know quite a lot about Ohio and Iowa and other locations further west, but have absolutely no clue about Pennsylvania. So any advice you could share would be very helpful. Thanking any recommenders/informers in advance. Lorraine lorraineq@juno.com

Hi Bea, Sorry, I know nothing more than what has been posted by Evely Pecht. Carolyn
I can do a lookup in the Mifflin County cemetery book for you. What name/names are you searching? There is a rough drawing of the cemetery layout which only shows sections A or B (new section or old section) and the stones are numbered within. Please respond to Carl Garver garver@lvc.edu ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: "Garver, Carl" <garver@lvc.edu> To: Josie Baughman <josiefb@verizon.net> Sent: Friday, May 2, 2008 11:11:51 AM Subject: RE: Mifflin County PAGenWeb Thank you Josie. One other question. My grandfather, Harvey Rowles, I've also seen 'Harvey Roles' (whose obituary I have) is shown to have been interred at Locust Grove Cemetary. He was quite young when he passed as my mother was only an infant. Cause of death: spanish influenza. His burial was officated by a Reverand Kanagy in Belleville around 1925. I always assumed that his tombstone would be in the Locust Grove Cemetary in Belleville but there is no record of such. Are there any other Locust Grove Cemetaries (inlcuidng Juniata County) that I might be missing? Locust Grove Cemetary in Belleville seems to be very organized with their records so I question whether that is the one where my grandfather is buried. I tend to think prehaps another or perhaps an earlier, original location. I'm sorry I am bothering you with this so if you wish to place me in contact with one of the cemetary researchers I would appreciate that. ________________________________ From: Josie Baughman [josiefb@verizon.net] Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 5:52 PM To: Garver, Carl Subject: Re: Mifflin County PAGenWeb Mr. Garver- If you go to this site and click on the link to info, it tells you some general directions on where to locate the cemeteries. http://www.pagenweb.org/~mifflin/cemeteries.html This site gives you GPS directions to some of the cemeteries in Mifflin Co. http://www.pagenweb.org/~mifflin/where-is-it.htm Hope this is helpful.
