Some of their children were born here. Mathais and Sarah Fitzgerald are their names. They may have lost 2 babies there and they would be buried in a prostestant grave yard somewhere. Can anyone help me? I know they moved on to Venango/Clarion Co.Pa. and settled in 1823. Custer is Sarah's maiden name. Maybe some family of hers is why they were there. Mathais 1786, was born in Worcester, Pa. in Montgomery Co.

There is a rather lengthy article on pages 103 - 105, a biography of Robert Cox. I'll just give the basic details: "The parents of Mr. Cox came from Derry county, Ireland, in the year 1800. They stopped 2 years in Philadelphia, and then came to Kishacoquillas Valley. The father died at the age of 84, and the mother at 76....The parents of Mr. Cox were born in Ireland, the father in August, 1766, and the mother in February, 1773, and the sister, August 16, 1797, in Ireland, and Robert May 16, 1806. Mr. Cox showed us an old pocket-book that belonged to his father, marked "Thomas Cox, 1790," also his naturalization papers, dated September 9, 1806, signed "John Norris, prothonotary," authorized by an act of Congress in 1802. But the most valued and satisfactory papers shown us by Mr. Cox, were the certificates of character brought from their old homes, in Ireland, of which their descendants may well be proud." The certificates give the names of Robert Cox's parents as Thomas Cox, born and bred in the parish of Leethpathick, county of Tyrone, Ireland and Jennet Cunningham, born and lived in the parish of Donaugheady. "Their tombs in the old cemetery above Reedsville, read: Thomas Cox, born August 11th, 1766. Thomas Cox, died May 15th, 1850. Mrs. Jennet Cox, born February 14th, 1773. Mrs. Jennet Cox, died Jan. 14th, 1853. Elizabeth Ann, born August 18th, 1797. Elizabeth Ann, died Sept. 18th, 1842. Robert was never married, but is spending a happy life, high in the estimation of all who know him, near Logan's spring, a model of morals, health, body and mind." Sue

There are several cemeteries in the general McVeytown area. The largest one is right across the river in Mattawana. The Mifflin County Historical Society several decades ago published the lists for all the county cemeteries, including the one at Mattawana. If no one else can help you, you could contact the MCHS and request a search. I have a copy of the listing for that cemetery since a number of my family members are buried there. What names are you looking for? The Irvin family was connected to the Postlethwaite family of Newton Hamilton so you might need to broaden your search beyond the immediate McVeytown area. Nothing in the book, unfortunately, but looking through various censuses, there are a few clues. 1880 census of Derry, Mifflin; David Kell(e)y says that he was born in Pa of parents who were both born in Ireland. John A. Henry says he was born in Pa, as was his mother, but his father was born in Virginia. 1850 census of Cromwell, Huntingdon, Pa has John W. Henry, 32, born Virginia Margaret (wife), 28, born Pa Mary A. 9, born Pa Samuel J.; 6, born Pa JOHN A., 4, born Pa Alfred S, 1, born Pa. 1860 census of Oliver, Mifflin, Pa John W. Henry, 44, born Virginia Margaret, 38 , Pa Samuel J., 17, Pa JOHN A., 15, Pa Alfred S. 12, Pa Sarah, 8, Pa William C., 2, Pa 1850 Hopewell, Bedford, Pa census David Kelley, 40 Elizabeth, 38 Marcy Catherine, 11 David, 9 *ALL BORN PA* Susanna, 7 ELIZA, 3 Sarah Jane, 2 1860 Hopewell, Bedford, Pa David Kelley, 49, wife has disappeared - presumed died sometime between 1853 and 1860 Mary Catherine, 21 David, 18 Susanna, 16 ELIZA, 14 Sarah Jane, 11 Richard (Tyler or Taylor) Kelley, 11 John A., 9 1870 Broad Top, Bedford, Pa (family 14) David Kelly, 57 ELIZA, 23 1870 Broad Top, Bedford, Pa (family 27) JOHN HENRY, 24 is enumerated with Michael and Nancy Stevens. It is quite obvious that this is where John and Eliza met, then work to him to Mifflin and her widower father joined them. 1910 Lewistown, Mifflin John and Eliza Henry say that they have been married 38 years (1872) and that they have had 5 children, with just 3 survivng by 1910. He says in this census that his father was born in Maryland 1920 Lewistown, John is now a widower, aged 74. He says in this census that his father was born in Pennsylvania. The Kell(e)y family should have their Pa history primarily in Bedford county (Hopewell twp?) whereas the Henry family will be somewhere in Virginia (I think Maryland and Pa as birthplaces of John A's father were just a bad memory. Everything points to John W. and Margaret Henry being his father). Hope all this helps
