    1. Re: [PAMIFFLI] Re: Walkinshaw
    2. sue
    3. William J Walkinshaw is in the 1900 - 1930 Dauphin county censuses. In the 1900 census, William says he was born in December of 1873 and Margaret says she was born in March of 1880. They say they have been married 3 years (1897?) and have 1 child, William Clifford who was born in March of 1897. In subsequent censuses, they list their children as William Clifford, Roy, Percy, Isabel, Blanche, Earl, Mary, Elizabeth (Betty), and Doris. In ALL of the censuses William says that he was born in Pa of parents who were both born in Scotland. In ALL of the censuses, Margaret says she was born in Pennsylvania of a father born in England and a mother born in Wales. William J. Walkinshaw is a son of Archibald and Ann Walkinshaw. They are in the 1880 - 1910 Williamstown censuses. Archie was born in Scotland in Feb, 1837 and Ann was born in Scotland in March, 1835. They emigrated in 1865. Other children are: Archie Jr. (born Feb, 1864 in Scotland), Maggie A. (born June, 1875 in Pa, and Claud Robert (born May, 1879 in Pa). In the 1900 census, Archibald and Ann say that they have been married 43 years (abt 1857?) and that they have had 9 children, but just the 4 survive. Margaret appears to be the daughter not of James and Elizabeth, but of John Shuttleworth (born May, 1846 in England) and Elizabeth (born July, 1850 in Wales). John says that he emigrated in 1854 and Elizabeth says she emigrated in 1850, presumably shortly after her birth. Other children of John and Elizabeth are John (born Ohio abt 1869), Rebecca J. (born abr 1872 and married John Myers of Venango, butler, Pa), Henry (born september, 1874 in either Ohio or Pa), Elizabeth (born abt 1877 in Pa), Willie (born Feb, 1879 and married florence Rider). In the 1900 census, John and Elizabeth say they have been married 31 years (1869?) and that they have had 7 children, only 5 surviving. The 7th child must be Margaret who was born in March or either 1880 (according to the census) or 1881 (according to her tombstone?). The known surviving 5 children by 1900 are Margaret, Willie, Henry and 2 others. John Shuttleworth, born 1846 in England, was a son of James (born abt 1818) and Jane Shuttleworth (born abt 1820). The family can be found in the Hickory twp, Mercer county, Pa censuses. Children William, John, Betty, Henry and Ann were all born in England. Sons Samuel and James were forn in Pennsylvania. In the 1880 Mercer county, Pa census are the John and Elizabeth Shuttleworth family (presumed parents of Margaret M.) and a William and Mary Walkinshaw (William born abt 1835 in Scotland and wife Mary born about 1840 in Scotland). I strongly suspect that this William is an older brother of Archibald Walkinshaw and that William J. Walkinshaw and Margaret M. Shuttleworth met in Mercer county or perhaps in Dauphin county if the Mercer county Shuttleworths are related to the Dauphin county Shuttleworths (some of whom seem to spell their name Shuttlesworth). Hope this helps out, Sue

    3. Hi.... quickly, I have a Rebecca GLANT Bearley . Maybe you have a Rebecca , Becky, Becca, something??? She is listed in the Obituaries of Mifflin County 1822-1880. I have purchased and have utilized Dan McClenahen's as well as Gerri Aitken's books for 10 yrs. now, and will gladly look-up, share with you anything I have . I really want to pursue this Glant/Bearley connection. Thanks... Donna Glant Terrian Apopka, FL P.S. Do you reside in Pennsylvania??? It was probated in Mifflin County that same year. In the will he mentions his sister, Peggy, his daughter, Betty, his son, Abraham, and Abrahams children: Nancy, Matty and Betty. Executors were his son, Abraham, and Elijah Criswell. He does not mention his wife in the will. Abraham was born about 1785 (gravestone) and married Nancy M ______, probably about 1802 and possibly in Mifflin County. In the 1880 census about half of Abraham's children said he was born in Ireland, the others said Pennsylvania. Where is Henry buried? What was Nancy's maiden name? Can anyone help me with this family? Richard Welch Farmington, New Mexico __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The all-new My Yahoo! - Get yours free! http://my.yahoo.com
