Tink, I found what I was in search of. There is a book made up from the original Alms House Records in the Mifflin County Historical Society......I found a few names that I was not looking for but, could never find. I did get a chance to see the original Book and then checked the information with the book that was made from the original records ....I checked to see if I had all the information on the one person that I was searching and yes.....all information in both books are the same. I think it is great to get a chance to go through any old records. In some cases see your Great Grandparents signature.......I love old photo's........I collect everything to verify my families. Thank you for sending those links....I went in and, found another family member in Blair County......... I am keeping the link for future use. Again, Thank you Kindly, Bea [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tink Miller" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 20, 2005 12:12 PM Subject: [PAMIFFLI] Alms Houses > > > Someone on one of these lists was asking about Alms Houses. Can't find Joseph Sprouse, but Minnie M. Shirk (also spelled Sherk and Shira in other Armagh twp censuses) is in the 1900 and 1910 censuses with her parents. In the 1900 census, Minnie M. says she was born in June of 1894. Samuel E. Shirk born April, 1872 and Charlotte M. Shirk born October 1870. In the 1900 census, they say they have been married 6 years (1894?) and have had 3 children, all surviving. By the 1910 census, they say they have been married 16 years and have had 6 children, all surviving.
Someone on one of these lists was asking about Alms Houses. I deleted the message so I don't know which list it was or the timeframe in question. There is a website about "poor houses" at www.poorhousestory.com, which has a lot of history about these facilities all over the country and links to some existing records. You can click on the link for state lists and see what is available for any state. For Juniata and Mifflin Cos., it refers to some microfilm available at PA State Archives: http://www.poorhousestory.com/PA_Archives_records.htm. It's not much, but maybe it will help. Hi Bea, I think the Jennie Freed you are looking for is in my family tree. Was she the daughter of John Levi Freed and Elizabeth Jane Johnson? I have John Levi buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Milroy. Jennie may be there as well. I don't have any additional information on her just that she married a John Bohn. Was Jennie a sister to Rebecca who you are also asking about in another email? I've had difficulties tracing the Freed family due to only one living relative, a great aunt. I would love to know if you hear from anyone else about information on Jennie. Thank You Michele Freed --- Bea Rutherford <[email protected]> wrote: > Good Day, > > In search of information on Mary Jane > Freed........born about 1880........she was married > to a John C.
