    1. [PAMERCER-L] WANTED: New Mercer County CC
    2. Michael L. Hebert
    3. Well folks, I guess it is finally time for me to face reality and accept the fact that I am not going to be able to find the time in the foreseeable future to maintain the Mercer County USGenWeb web site as it should be maintained. My job and travel schedule just take too much of my spare time. And quite frankly, any spare time I do find I like to spend away from a computer since my job mainly involves working with computers. I am actually one of the dummies that enjoys getting out in this Texas heat and sunshine when I get the chance. Sooooo ... I would like to announce that the position of USGenWeb/PAGenWeb county coordinator (CC) of Mercer County is now open. I have handed off two other counties in the past and have liked the way each one was transferred. Here are the ground rules: 1) You MUST design your own new set of pages in your own style. I would feel uncomfortable just handing over my pages to someone. Aside from the fact that I spent many many hours designing my pages, I think that if someone takes the time to design their own pages, it shows some commitment to maintaining the site. 2) Although you must design your own pages, any and all of the data currently on the web site (including old queries and surname entries) is free for you to use. For data that was contributed by someone, you should get their permission to include the data on your pages. 3) It's always nice to see new people get involved in USGenWeb, so preference will be given to first-time CC's and to those who have shown an interest in Mercer County genealogy through the queries pages and e-mail list. If I had my druthers, I would probably just set up some sort of voting mechanism to choose a new CC, but I just have the time to do that. 4) You will need to assume ownership of the PAMERCER-L e-mail list and the GenConnect query and data message boards for Mercer County. These items are very easy to maintain and don't require a lot of effort. 5) You can have the RootsWeb account and web space where the Mercer County site now resides or you can put your pages on the server of your choice. 6) You can't include any commercial advertising on your pages. This is a policy of USGenWeb. Other guidelines on becoming a USGenWeb/PAGenWeb CC can be found at: http://www.usgenweb.org/volunteers/volunteers.html Well, that is all I can think of at the moment. So, if you are interested and feel you can relatively quickly get a set of pages together, please contact me within the next few days at: mhebert.usgw@worldnet.att.net I would like to get things handed over ASAP as I will be very busy at work and will be doing a lot of travelling the next couple of months. So, I will probably make a decision by next weekend unless there are no takers. In which case, I will let the brand new PAGenWeb state coordinator, Nate Zipfel, handle it. I really hate having to relinquish the Mercer County web site. I have enjoyed building the site and corresponding with many people interested in Mercer County genealogy. There is still a lot of potential for bringing Mercer County data online and adding new features to the site. I hope to hear from some interested parties soon. Thanks, Mike _______________________________________________________ Mercer County, Pennsylvania USGenWeb county coordinator
