John, I believe we have corresponded before on other surnames. I have quite alot of information of a MERCHANT family which originated abt 1700 in Glouchester Co., VA. Our line eventually went to South Carolina and then Texas. They were Quakers. I don't know if there is any connection, but let me know. Jane
