I sent out a query regarding some ancestors living in West Salem Township several months ago, but never received a reply. As long as this list seems to have returned from the graveyard (pun intended) I thought I'd try again. I am primarily concerned about anyone with the last name of BOWMAN. We know that there was a John Bowman who lived somewhere in Pennsylvannia. He had a son, either David or Davis Bowman who was born on September 11, 1778 and lived in West Salem Township in Mercer County, although it is not certain that he was born there. David BOWMAN married Anna CLARKE on December 31, 1801. Anna Clarke is something of a mystery; my grandfather (John Clarke BOWMAN IV) who compiled the genealogy in the 1970's claimed that she was the daughter of George Rogers Clark, despite the different spelling of last names. My father and I believe this is a fiction of my grandfather's and is probably not true. Anna and David (or Davis) had twins, John Clarke BOWMAN II and James BOWMAN, who married Martha ANDREWS. John and James were born on December 25, 1802. John Clarke BOWMAN II lived in Sharon, Shenago and West Salem Township as he was growing up, and then moved to Warren in Trumbull County, Ohio, somehwere between 1832 and 1835. He eventually moved to Iowa and died on December 1, 1887 in Petaluma, CA. An information that anyone can locate would be much appreciated. My father and I are trying to find out from which country the BOWMANs came, and exactly who the first BOWMAN was who arrived in American from our line. Sincerely, William Clarke "Bill" Bowman
