Might as well join in.... I am searching for ROBERTS in Mercer County. Thomas Roberts and Sarah Whitehouse came to Pennsylvania from Wales some time after 1846 and before 1850 and settled in Mercer County (we believe in Sharon, or vacinity). We know of two children: Sarah b. 1846 in England (Wales?) and Harry, born in Sharon in 1850. SARAH ROBERTS (b. 1846 Manchester?, England, d. 1930, Pittsburgh, PA) married Samuel Young. She had at least one child, a dughter named Ella. HARRY ROBERTS (b. 1-1-1850 in Sharon, Mercer County, PA; d. 3-20-1935 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County) and FRANCES ELIZABETH (DICKSON) ROBERTS (b. 1856 in New Metamoras, Washington County, OH; d. 2-16-1927 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County) of Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County PA. Fanny's parents were ALEXANDER DICKSON [son of CHRISTOPHER DICKSON (from Ireland) and FRANCES LEWIS (from Tyler County, (now West) Virginia)] and ELIZABETH ANN SHAW. Children of Harry and Fanny were: SAMUEL G. ROBERTS who wrote western novels/novellas under the pen name Sam Galbreath. Sam was said to have left Pennsylvania to join the circus as a young man. Was working as a ranch hand in the west. Lived in Arizona where he died in late 1950's or early 60's. He was married, but not much else is known at this time. GEORGE ROBERTS (B. 1-26-1874 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County; d. 6-12-1957 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County) married to Mary Buzzard (b. 2-5-1877 in Swissvale (?) Allegheny County; d. 1-29-1966 in Wilmerding, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania) Children: Margaret (b. April 07, 1896, Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania; d. March 03, 1981, Zephyrhills, Pasco County, Florida), Fanny, Anna and Albert. HARRY R. ROBERTS (b. 1-10-1876 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County; d. unk, but buried in Arlington National Cemetery) married 6-18-1902 to Ann Drummond (b. 3-18-1881 in Glasgow, Scotland, d. UKN.) Harry served in the Spanish American War. They had at least one child, a son named Donald. EDWARD THOMAS ROBERTS (b. 12-14-1879 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, d. 1-24-1960, Swissvale, Allegheny County, PA) married June 12, 1901 in St. Stephens Rectory, Wilkinsburg, PA JEAN HALL DRUMMOND (b. 1-24-1879 in Glasgow Scotland, d. 7-30-1953 Swissvale, Allegheny County, PA) daughter of William Drummond and Jean Hall. Edward worked for Union Switch & Signal in Swissvale, lost hand in factory accident. Later became a Swissvale Police Officer. Children: Frances Jean, Naomi, Edward, Howard, Alexander, Ruth, Margaret Helen and John (Jack). MARGARET K. ROBERTS (b. 12-14-1879 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, d. UNK, Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, PA) married to John Irwin Pratt who died in 1927, then remarried (in 1935) to Maurice L. Thompson, Esq. WILLIAM ROBERTS (b. 1-1884, d. 3-16-1884 died at 3 mos. of age). ELMER ALEXANDER ROBERTS (born 12-14-1883 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, PA, d. 2-24-1957 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania) married Mercedes Wendell. One child: Thomas Edward ROBERT FRANCIS ROBERTS (b. 1889 in Wilkinsburg, Allegheny County, PA, d. Unk.) married to Emma Junker. Although all of the children were born in Allegheny County, the family spent some time in Mercer County. It is believed that Harry, a bricklayer, was involved in the construction of steel mills in Sharon, although it is possible that it was his father Thomas, not Harry, who was involved. If you are descended from Thomas and Sarah Roberts or their children Harry or Sarah (or others???), or have any information on their children, siblings or their ancestors, please contact Ray Roberts at rroberts@p-b-llp.com I will be happy to share all that I have, including scanned photographs, with any other Roberts descendants. Thanks for your time Ray Roberts Pittsburgh, PA
