    1. [PAMERCER-L] Thanks for the mail!

    3. Came home from work today and checked and had twice as many e-mails as usual due to the activity! My family (various branches) came to the Shenango Valley, Mercer County between 1900 and 1935. I have lived here for nearly 50 years. Some of the names sound familiar because I went to school with the names (like Shingledecker)(Hickory High in Hermitage PA). I keep on the list because I have lived here all my life and figure I might run into a name I can help with. I work at the Farrell Schools in Farrell. I have access to yearbooks there, but they don't start until 1920. But I will do lookups from them. In the spring I usually visit a few of the local cemeteries: Haywood Cemetery in West Middlesex, Oakwood in Sharon, and Hillcrest in Hermitage. Found some notes my uncle-in-law wrote in the 60s. Reference was made to the fact in the War of 1812 three men from Mercer Co. were courtmartialed and shot in Erie, PA. Names Byrd, Pole & Rankin. They were caught in Mercer Co. Supposedly a song was written about this. Does anyone know anything about this? (Can you sing the song?) Joanne Long Lloyd Researching Names (mostly from SW PA, OH & WV) Crawford, Simpson, Archer, Givens, Hupp, Blum, Long, Finkbeiner, Mackey, Lantz.
