I agree with everything on the Historical Society and county seat. I wish to add that there is a Mercer County Genealogical Society located at Shenango Valley Community Library, 11 North Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon, PA. The Genealogical section of the library is open when the library is - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (10-8pm). Friday and Saturday (10:00 am to 4:00 pm) and Sunday (just starting up again - 1:00 pm to 5:00 p.m.) Most of the Genealogical holdings are available for looking thru etc. However on Tuesdays, from 10:00 am to 3:00 or so the volunteers of the Society are available for help and helping you find information that we have. There is also information - that due to its nature of only copies know of is only available on Tuesdays. The Society also has the list of early death records, birth records (before 1906) list of Delayed Birth Certificates and Marriage licenses that were recorded up to 1946 (These items are only available on Tuesday) from the courthouse. If you are going to be in town on an off day, usually we can have a volunteer meet you on a day other than Tuesday. The library can call one of the volunteers. The Genealogical Society is in the process of abstracting all the old newspapers - births, deaths, marriages up to 1920. After that only the obituaries are being abstracted. This list at the present time is only available when a volunteer is there to access our computer.
