My distant cousin Carol Senior discovered through naturalization records that our McWhirters who came over in 1822 from N. Ireland actually entered the country through the St. Lawrence River on the border between US and Canada, not through the usual NYC or Phila or Baltimore routes. They then got off whatever second boat they were on at Erie, PA, and then came down to Lawrence County. Most ended up in Mercer, eventually. My question is this: does anyone know where to find records for people who entered the country this way in 1822-ships records, etc? I've checked all the usual sites and CDs for ship's lists, but none seem to have anything of much value, not like the other ports of entry. AmyHutton
