George Cubbison is said to have opened the first store in the Township in 1848. "The first store in the township was commenced in Fairview village by George Cubbison, April 1, 1848, and was furnished immediately upon completion, with fair stock of goods, such as are usually found in a country store. Its owner had continued in business there for about five years, when a merchant from Sheakleyville commenced a similar business in the place, and some two or three months afterwards was bought out by Henry Fulton, who also purchased the stock remaining with Cubbison, and commenced a profitable business there. " p.33 According to Mercer Co., PA Historical Society George Cubbison, Jr. lived in Centre Twp., Butler Co., PA in 1840 (pg.117) and 1850, where his wife was Isabella; and in 1860 in North Liberty Twp., PA, a cobbler. In 1870 Census (page 417-B, #39), George was listed as living in Pine Twp., Mercer Co., PA, a farmer with a value of $3,900.00 in real estate and $900.00 in personal. In 1880 Census (pg269 - B, #159) George was listed as living in Pine Twp., Mercer Co., PA, a farmer with palsy.
