Gillespie b 1804 who married Margaret who he thought was possibly a Bean, was the son of Thomas born ca 1775? We had corresponded on this back in Nov 2000. I did get part of the probate pack from the Mercer Co Courthouse for Thomas who died 1853 which did not mention any of Thomas/Hannah's children except their son Joseph who was an adult & still lived at home with Hannah. There were several items in the packet where there was a dispute over a colt & who it belonged to, either Thomas or Hannah. That was it. No mention of any of the other children. Mimi, if Jack Heck's widow has any info in his old files on my John D. Gillespie who m Margaret & proof that he was the son of Thomas/Hannah I would really appreciate it. I really have no proof that this is the case to date. Liz, I am assuming the David mentioned in Biographies of Notable Americans is the same David who married Hannah L. Dumars. He was born 17 July 1799 & possibly is the brother of my John D. Gillespie. Then from the article in "Biographies", Thomas Gillespie's b 1775 wife was not Hannah Dumars but Hannah Duncan. My b/m/d records of the children of Thomas b 1775 is very incomplete.All I have listed are David b 17 July 1799 & m Hannah L. Dumars, William who m a Catherine, John D., Joseph who died at age 36 in 1858 & never married, Rebecca, Isabel, Catherine, Eliza Marie who m Samuel D. Dray and the last child Thomas who m a Myra. As you can see my records are far from complete. If you can fill in any blanks would appreciate it. On the 1850 census my John Gillespie & wife Margaret were living in West Salem Twp with their children Margaret, Rosanna, Thomas & Margaret. Their oldest daughter Hannah was married to Peter McMahon & out of the household. John was age 46. Now there was another John Gillespie living in 1850 in Sandylake Twp also with a wife named Margaret. He was age 35 with children Adam S., Mary A.,David C.,John H. & Margaret J. Believe this John's parents are David Gillespie & Rebecca Hays. Family history said Hannah Gillespie McMahon's grandmother was a Dumars. There must be some truth to it as that is a strange name to make up. But I want to make sure I pick up John D Gillespie's right parents. Liz, do you have any new info? I have the charts you sent me back in 2000 & Jack Heck's note where he lists Thomas' children & said lets concentrate on David. These Gillespie's & Dumars are so intertwined its driving me bonkers. For some reason when I try to retrieve message board answers I can access the site but by going to ancestry.com & going thru all the Dumar/Gillespie messages to find your replies.
