Is there anyone on this list that lives in Sharon,Pa.and remembers the "chatterbox" downtown or the radar base out on route 7 in Ohio. I left many good friends behind when I was discharged way back in 1954. jack..

Although I left the Shenango Valley in the summer of 1953 after graduating from high school, I guess I'd better jump in since I did grow up in Sharon and Farrell. From what I understand, that was an Air Force radar site in Brookfield, while the Air National Guard had a base adjacent to the Youngstown Airport (actually located in Vienna, Ohio). The ANG put up a water tower, which commercial pilots considered dangerous enough that many refused to land there in bad weather. I know from personal experience because, while my sister and I were waiting for a plane to Chicago in the summer of 1953, the pilot of our flight radioed the airport that he would not land because of the limited visibility. Officials had to contact another inbound flight that was also headed for Chicago to see if he could take any extra passengers. Fortunately, he agreed to take us.
