Someone has suggested I should check the land records (for Mercer Co.) to find out more about my ancestors. My direct line is Thomas ROGERS (1795-1882) He was raised, died and buried in Mercer. He was the owner of the "old stone jail" and converted it into a rooming house. I am looking for other ROGERS researchers. also: NICKUM, LAFFERTY, BYERS, CARY (CAREY) WAUGH
I am descended from Robert MILLS(1792-1858) who came to Mercer Co., PA from Ireland in 1831. Wife was Mary Moore(1804-1880). They eventually had 15 children, including my ggrandfather Robert(1835-1891), who married Rebecca McQuiston(1836-1908)and lived in Crawford County, PA. Their son Fred C. Mills(1871-1943)married Jeanette HAMILTON(1874-1951), daughter of James HAMILTON(1816-1887)of Conneaut Lake in Crawford Co. Do you have information on any of these people? Was just reading your email for the ship list and the first name you mentioned "Patterson" as one you recalled seeing I couldn't find. Is it possibly on another list. I would be very interested in seeing where it appears. Re: Marlene and Dennis Burkheimer message Dee Boyd St.Louis, Mo.
Want to share two sites that may be of interest to some of you. One is the Olive Tree website where I have transcribed a ship list from Londonderry Ireland to Philadelphia in 1832 (the ship is named Asia.) Access it at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~ote/iriship2.htm Some names that I recall are Patterson, Blackwell, Gallagher, Doherty and McNutt. Check it out! Another site is the McFate surname website at: http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/m/c/p/John-B-McPhate/ This site has reports of descendants of Robert McFate and Father McFate that have many western PA roots. Thanks, Mike -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mr. Hebert: I am doing some research on my father's family, Russell. He's buried in Millbank cemetary in Fredonia bur there are no dates. I tried to research his death through the funeral home records, but the ones back that far can't be found. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note from Mercer County Coordinator - I received this message from someone needing help with the history of the French Creek Twp. area. Please contact Mary if you can offer any help. Mike -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, Friend, I live on a farm in Mercer County which, I found after an agonizing search in the courthouse, was awarded to Pvt. William Griffey after the Revolutionary War in about 1780 or so. I searched for the subsequent owners over the next years, but just couldn't figure out how to do it. My parents, Adrien and Charlotte Adelman, owned it when I was a child, and then my sister, Annette Antoun, got it. I would like to write a book about it and the area, as historically accurate as I can, but I need to get information about the people and the area (French Creek Twp.). If you could aim me in the right direction, I would be very happy. I'm semi-retired, but I never seem to get to do this, and I want to, very badly. My email address is mprather@toolcity.net. If this is expensive, I cannot do it. At any rate, please do what you can to guide me. Thank you. Mary Ann Prather mprather@toolcity.net
