Hello, We are looking for any information on the parents of Sarah/Caroline Law b.abt 1825 PA. Sarah/Caroline was married about 1848 to James Hendricks b.abt 1822 OH. Two known children: Seth b.1847 and Isabel b.1850. Seth's death certificate shows his mother to be Sarah Law. However, the 1850 Census of Lawrence Co., PA shows her to be Caroline. James and Sarah lived in Mahoning Twp at the time of the 1850 Census. We believe that Sarah/Caroline was from Mercer Co. If anyone has any hints on the parents of Sarah/Caroline, please let us know. Hi everyone - The Easter Bunny (i.e., Richard Winder) left a couple of Easter eggs in my e-mail box. These eggs are the 1850 census transcriptions for West Salem Twp. and the town of West Greenville. These include over 3000 individuals and are now online at the web site. The Easter Bunny says Sandy Lake Twp. is the next egg in the hopper. I want to apologize for being a little slow with the Mercer County web site updates lately. I've recently relocated and taken a new job in the computer consulting business that will be keeping me on the road much of the time. A month on the job and I'm getting ready to head out on my third trip out of town already! I have been busy setting up my laptop so I can keep up with my web duties while I'm away from home. I should soon be able to keep up with the updates in a timely manner. Thanks, Mike _______________________________________________________ Mercer County, Pennsylvania USGenWeb county coordinator

In 1833, the Nobbs family (father, 3 boys and a 3 yr. old girl) stopped at Mercer on their way to Pittsburgh from Canada. The wife and mother had died on shipboard on the trip from England. A Judge Hogue and wife took the little girl, Abigail, into their home. The father and boys proceeded to Pittsburgh. Abigail stayed in Mercer for about 14 years and then joined her brothers. She named her second son Theodore Hogue Boice. Who was Judge Hogue? Is he in your line? Thanks, Carol

I agree. . . the Mercer County Courthouse is very "user friendly". I could tell they have had a great deal of experience with those of us compelled to research our ancestors, yet they were infinitley patient and everything was very well organized. I would like to know, however, a good place to lunch near the courthouse if anyone knows? Today I went searching for some wills at the Mercer co. courthouse. I've never been there before and this was my first experience with looking up wills. Everyone was very helpful with instructions on how to go about it so if anyone out there has the occasion to do will lookups in Mercer, believe me you are in good hands. Found the following information on Frank Hughes of 69 Main St Sharon PA on the 1920 Census. It was very hard to read. Don't know if I got the info all or not. If anyone has access to 1900 Census could you look this same person and location up. If the copies are readable I would be most happy to pay for time and copies. My interlibrary loan was told the copies were all the same. Black around the outside edge making street locations and some names unreadable. I would rather pay for what I know to be readable to someone online than to trust the interlibrary loan program again. spent my money got no readable copy and could not finish the search I was doing. Sent it back for a replacement and was told none available. No credit or nothing. Was very surprise as was my local Liberian. 1920 Census on SD17 ED83 sheet 14A shows Frank as head of house and widowed with sons John and Edward, daughters Maude and Clara and nephew Harry all living with him. Frank shows as being born in Ireland as were his parents. His wife, not listed, was born in Penn. per the children's census listing. Irish is the native language for both Frank and his parents. Since I have received several e-mails concerning this map I will reply through the digest. I obtained a photocopy of this map a few years ago before I knew the importance of sources. However, I do have one cryptic note from a visit to the Mercer Co. Historical Society which says "get copy of 1860 map of Mercer (pg 5) on next visit" There is also the possiblity that the house I was locating was built around 1860 and that the map is actually an 1873 map. Sorry for the confusion. I will endeavor to track the correct date down. Gayle

The 1860 map of Mercer County shows a J. COVERT at the corner of the Mercer- Butler Turnpike (rt 258) and Black Run Rd. Anyone know the first name of the person and his/her parents? Any other pertinent info also. The map also show a J.H. Campbell across the road from J.D. Covert along Wolf Creek, Liberty Twp. Any first name for CAMPBELL? Is this Elizabeth 'Eliza' COVERT's husband, John H. or possibly her father in law, John? His wife was Elizabeth GILLESPIE. Closer to the Butler Co. line is W. Dale. Is this a William DALE, 2nd husband of Maria COVERT. Her first husband was Henry Campbell. Thanks, Gayle
