When she went down to the docks, a handsome young sailor noticed her tears, took pity on her, and said, "Look, you've got a lot to live for. I'm off to Europe in the morning, and if you like, I can stow you away on my ship. I'll take good care of you and bring you food every day." Moving closer, he slipped his arm around her shoulder and added, "I'll keep you happy, and you'll keep me happy." The girl nodded 'yes.' After all, what did she have to lose? That night, the sailor brought her aboard and hid her in a life-boat. From then on, every night he brought her three sandwiches and a piece of fruit, and they made passionate love until dawn. Three weeks later, during a routine search, she was discovered by the captain. "What are you doing here?" the Captain asked. "I have an arrangement with one of the sailors," she explained. "He's taking me to Europe, and he's screwing me." "He sure is, lady... This is the Staten Island Ferry!" .__________________________. /\__/\ | | / O O\_| ---TrashLaughs--- | / \University of Hard Knocks| / \ \ dogbyte@netzone.com | / _ \ \_______________________! / |\____\ \ || / | | | |\____/ || / \| | | |/ | _|| / / \ ------- |_____| || / | | | __) | | | |_____ __) IT'S FREE!!! | |_|_|_| | \___) /\ | !! / /\ | / / / | | | To be added to the list, go to: _/ / | | | http://www.min.net/~dogbyte !_/ c_c_c_C/ \C_c_c_c/ --------------343409AD4370087771B3F2EE--
I received a wonderful Christmas present from the National Archives in Washington, DC. It was the complete pension file for my great great grandfather, who died in the Civil War. Included were his marriage certificate, the marriage certificate for his widow's remarriage, the appointment of a guardian for his five minor children, various affadavits from doctors, friends, and ministers who were present at the birth of said children or the marriage, documents concerning his death which gave the cause of death and name of the hospital where he died. His widow was granted a pension of $8 a month for ten years, with an additional $2 for each minor child. To get this information I had sent off a NATF Form 80, which I had requested by email from inquire@nara.gov. They accept credit cards. You can get information about the National Archives services at http://www.nara.gov/genealogy/genindex.html The following is exerpted from their website: ************************************************** To obtain Civil War military service and pension records by mail Paper copies of Civil War military service and pension records can be ordered by mail using one NATF Form 80 for each soldier and each type of file. I have activated a new GenConnect query board for Mercer County. This will allow the immediate posting of queries and surname interests. Please go to the Mercer County main page for the link. Old queries and surnames will remain online as an archive and queries and surnames submitted but not yet posted will be made available as an archive also. The GenConnect system is widely used throughout USGenWeb and I hope everyone likes it. Time constraints are preventing me from manually editing and posting queries and surname entries like I used to do. Thanks, Mike _______________________________________________________ Mercer County, Pennsylvania USGenWeb county coordinator

One of the mailing lists I am on notified me yesterday they got an unsubscribe message which I did not send, and now none of the lists I have been using are sending me messages, so I want to contact each one and see about getting back on. Do you need me to go through the original subscribe process, or can you readd me? I had trouble getting into the internet and getting my mail 2 days ago, and this has all happened immediately after that, so I suspect there was a foul-up in my internet system or in my own computer. Thanks. Ed Scriven at scriv@slkc.uswest.net

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - BOOK REPRINT Over the past few years, I have referenced Robert Stevensons History of the Magee Family in discussions/research with other family line researchers. Robert (Bob) is 84 years old, and during his full adult life he had the single quest of putting down on paper his (and our) family history. Finally, in the 60s, he published a hard back copy of the Magee Family History, but this History included: Magees, Appleby, Munnell, Elder, Rose, Friend, Wilkin, Hunter, McConnell, McCaslin, Campbell, Sharp, Roberts, Hogue, Wilson, Boston, Bryan, White, Waldron and McCluhan families. I have found this book to be the central force in my full family research. I have given you this type of introduction, because I am happy to tell you that Bob has agreed to permit a second printing. The publishing company informs me that this History will sell for about $60.00. Bob will receive a royalty for having authored the book. And...I want to make it very clear, I do not receive any compensation for the sale of any of this History. Bob has been a great resource to me during my research. He has hosted my family in his home, taught me the proper methods of family research and (he is a cousin). I do have a selfish reason. I would like a second copy of his works. Mine has been shipped to 15 different states and used diligently at my end. I hope I make it abundantly clear that my only involvement is to increase the amount of information we all need to better understand and properly accept our heritage. I will take names and addresses of interested purchasers of this History. I will send the list on to the publishers. They will contact those on the list with further instructions as to payment and delivery. Once Bob delivers the copy to the publishers, I am told the time line will be approximately 4/6 weeks to delivery. I hope I have given all the necessary information. However, if any one wishes more information, I am willing to provide added information. Please note: I have a copy of the History. If you wish to learn what may or may not be your involvement in this Family Line, just email me. I will give you what I have.
This sure is not a very active list! I have roots going way back in Mercer Co. We are from the Maskrey line from Fredonia/Sandy Lake area. I am trying to locate where my Great-Grandmother is buried. I have reason to believe that she is buried in or around Sandy Lake. I have e-mailed the lady who has all the Mercer Co. Cemetery survey information but never heard from her. My Ggrandmothers name was Sarah Ellen Pringle Maskrey d. EST 1902 does anyone else have a survey of the Sandy Lake area cemeteries? Joy Fulgham
Hello, I am seeking information about John Sharer, found in the 1850 Mercer Co. Delaware Twp. census as 85 years b. Ireland. The household also contains Leonora Sharer 62 Years b. Pa., who I suspect is a daughter. I have had Court to search probate records to no avail. If Cemetery records are available could someone search? I suspect he may have been Catholic, although at least one of his Grandsons, Patrick Sharrer, married into a Mennonite family by a Brethern minister. Thank you for badly needed help. Russ. >>><>
