    1. [PAMERCER-L] Grandfather
    2. Fred C McCutcheon
    3. Lola, Where is his tombstone ? Does it have more than the year ? Does the cemetery have any records at all? How do you know he did not die in Mercer County ? If you have the date you can get a death certificate for $ 3.00 from vital statistics in New Castle if he died in Pennsylvania after 1906. They will also do a ten year search for more money. Get as much information as you can before you send for certificates, it makes the search more accurate. Often, in a large state, there are people of the same name dying on the same day. Ask me, I know. When you get as much information as you can, contact me and I will mail you an application. Mac

    1. [PAMERCER-L] Sharon cemetery
    2. Ed Lloyd & Family
    3. The main cemetery I know of in Sharon is the Oakwood Cemetery on Oakland Avenue. It is a beautiful old cemetery with many mausoleums of the older Sharon families. It is still in use. The problem I always have is it so large that I have difficulty finding my family plots. My uncle tells a story of watching funeral processions on Oakland Ave. when he was a child in the 20s. The one that impressed him the most was a gypsy funeral procession. Does any one recall this? JLL

    1. [PAMERCER-L] Francis or Ella GIBBENS
    2. I've been unable to discover Francis Gibbens (birth and death unknown) except for records in the Mercer County Courthouse, dated Nov. 27, 1897, showing that Francis & Ella (Wolfe) Gibbens sold a parcel of land to a J.J. Boulter for the sum of $1.00. In the 1900 Pa. census Ella, born June 30, 1861, is divorced from Francis and working as a servant at 1083 West, Meadville, Pa. Francis and Ella had ten children. In Ella's 1943 obituary a son John Gibbens is listed as living in Meadville; sons Harry (born April 30, 1880) and Claude (born March 16, 1896) are listed as living in Greenville, Pa. Francis seems to have vanished from the Pa. census by 1900 with the youngest sons (who reappear in the 1920 census). All I know for certain about Francis is that he did, indeed, exist--he's my mystery man. Does anyone have information on siblings or parents of Francis Gibbens? I'm told that he was a red-headed Irishman. Thanks, Elizabeth

    2. Sharon Haggerty
    3. Hello Cousin Pat!!! I am a more distant relative than you may have hoped for!! Sarah Forbes was the daughter of Sarah Haggertie and George Forbes. Sarah's brother William was my ggg grandfather. I have records of Sarah's ancestors back to the late 1600s if you are interested. Sarah Sr. also had a brother George Haggertie who lived in Mercer County. I believe he still has descendants in Mercer County. I have recently been communicating with another Sweesy descendant, Karen Kimball. Have you found her?? Karen has sent me her family line and I would be very interested in exchanging information with you as well. My web page gives some information on the Haggertie/Haggertys (URL below). I am currently working on a revision/update to the site. Looking forward to hearing from you!! At 05:42 PM 23/02/99 -0500, sweeze@isrv.com wrote: >Thought I'd add my surnames to the pile!!! 2. Sharon Haggerty
    3. Llilnda, I see that you have the name MOON. There were some MOONs who were in Hastings County Ontario in the mid 1800s who then disappeared and who are rumoured to be connected to my Haggerty/Haggertie family. I recently found the following in the 1861 Hastings County census (Ontario was then called Canada West or CW): John Moon, born CW, Wesleyan Methodist, age 22 Robert Moon, CW, laborer, Episcopal, age 39 Sarah Moon, Ireland, Episc, 36 years William Moon, CW, 15 yrs James Moon, CW, 12 Alexander Moon, CW, 10 John Moon, CW, 6 Mary Moon, CW, 2 I wonder if this family might be related to yours? Sarah Moon may have been a daughter of Amelia Haggertie and George Webb. Amelia's brother George Haggertie and his wife Mary Shannon emigrated from Canada West to Mercer County PA. I also have a reprint of The 1873 Atlas and 1877 History of Mercer County and though my spare time at this time is nearly non-existent, I will check on what I can. Joanne Long Lloyd

A land grant was supposedly given to my gggggrandfather Francis H. Hamilton after his fighting in the War of 1812. His years were 1766 to 1844. He married Ruth Williams and they had one daughter at least Jane Hamilton. He lost the land however through speculation and moved on the Ohio. This story of the land grant is just rumor. I have no cold hard facts. Would love some however. As to the question of how many subscribe to the list and if any still live in Mercer County, I would love to know as well. I am now in Texas, although grew up in Mercer, PA. It's funny that many of the names people mention on this list are last names of kids I went to school with from about 1968 to 1878. Ramsey being one of them. Just FYI. 2. EBerkson
    3. Well, I'm still on the list but haven't had much luck with previous postings so gave it up for awhile. But since someone brought it up... I am looking for information on the family of John Thomas YOUNG (b. 1804) and his wife Nancy Jane ALLISON. They lived in Clarksville and had nine children. The entire family moved to Jo Daviess County, Illinois around 1854. John Thomas was the son of Matthew YOUNG and Elizabeth Bail(?). They moved to Mercer from Washington County via way of Allegheny. Nancy Jane was the daughter of Mary W. KOONTZ and Gaius ALLISON. I have quite a bit of information to share and am looking for other descendants of these people to compare notes with. janet young berkson
