    1. [PAMERCER-L] Searching for any stray Edeburns
    2. Shirley Anderson
    3. Hello everyone: I am researching the surname Edeburn. John B. Edeburn was born in 1850 in West Middlesex, PA. I looked in the 1850 census and could not find him - therefore, no luck with his parent's names. John moved to MN and married Anna Margaretha Will. On the DAR website, I found a John Edeburn from PA(too early to be mine - but might be same family). Am waiting to do an interlibrary loan on that file (hopefully). I believe the Edeburn's came from Scotland originally. Thanks for any help/advice, Shirley Anderson P.S. Thanks also for the census lookup (I deleted the message and forgot the name of that kind person)...sorry. I really did appreciate your checking.

    3. Do you have any idea who Margaret Crawford's parents may be? I have a Crawford Line, Robert Crawford born 1747, probably Lancaster Co. Pa. lived in Westmoreland Co. enlisted from there in 1776 & served 3 years in the Rev. War. I have children, for him, but cannot determine all of them. Robert came to Venango Co. on the Ven. Mercer co. line in 1802. His wife died after 1820 Cens. & before he applied for pension in 1826. If you have further info I would be very happy. 1. [PAMERCER-L] MacDonald/McDonald
    2. Don McDonald
    3. Hello to the Mercer List, Talk about shaking the trees and look what falls out. I will add my two cents for my line. Looking to find information on D.J. MacDonald from Sandy Lake area, he married Rosanna Barker(1848-1888). RosannasÂ’ parents were J.W. Barker and Nancy M. Rosanna is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, near Sandy Lake, along with her daughter, Anna(1868-1952). D.J. may be D. John MacDonald. He and Rosanna had one son, John Wesley MacDonald, and three daughters, Anna, Bertha, and Florence. John Wesley moved to Ellwood City, Lawrence County, Anna and Bertha may have moved to New York, Florence to Pittsburgh. Any help on D.J., particularly were he is buried, would be appreciated. Buried along with Rosanna and Anna is Hattie M. MacDonald(1899-1975), I am trying to place her in the family, but, itÂ’s another missing link. I believe Hattie may have lived in Ohio. Most of the family still lives in and around Ellwood City. Don McDonald Colorado Springs, Colorado

    1. [PAMERCER-L] James Bird
    2. Brent Morgan
    3. Hi Mercer Fans: I think Mrs. Lloyd asked about a Bird in the War of 1812, and others, and a subsequent ballad. About fifteen minutes before I opened my Mercer digest I was reading a book entitled A Signal Victory, The Lake Erie Campaign 1812-1813 by David Curtis Skaggs and Gerard T. Altoff. Pub by Naval Institute Press, Annapolis, MD 1997. Page 80 discusses James Bird, son of John and Rebecca of Luzerne county, PA. Bird was a gunner in a PA artillery outfit and was being held on charges theft, mutiny, and resisting arrest. Charges would be dropped if he would enlist as a marine in the Lake Erie Campaign and performed satisfactorily. "this enlistment would lead to tragic notoriety for the young gunner eventually celebrated in ballad." One of the footnotes to this was Chas. B. Galbreath, "The Battle of Lake Erie in Ballad and History," Ohio Archaeological and Historical Publications 20 (1911). Imagine the ballad may be in this book. That's all I can tell at this point. Incidentally, the first book cited that I am reading is excellent. Regards, Brent Morgan

    1. [PAMERCER-L] Maskrey/Beckman
    2. Joy or Rudolph Fulgham
    3. I've got roots in Mercer Co. As a Child the word vacation meant going to Mercer to Visit my Aunt Celia Beckman Klingensmith. I still have cousins and one uncle that live in and around Mercer/Fredonia. My Maskrey Clan (William, Hannah and four children) came to Mercer co. in 1830 est from Derbyshire England. And had a Homestead in or around Fredonia. I would love to know exactly where that was (The homestead) I know Fredonia My cousin's wife Cleo Beckman is the postmaster for Fredonia. Wm. and Hannah's grandson (through their son Bartholomew) George Walter Maskrey lived near Sandy Lake. His first wife died 1879 (Elizabeth [Lizzie] McDowell) leaving him to raise 4 small children. Lizzie is buried in or around Sandy Lake. Our family rumor states that he got him self a mail order bride Sara Ellen Pringle with whom he had 5 or 6 more children the last being born in 1900. In November of 1900 GW was still in Sandy Lake. Well Sara died in 1903 one of their youngest children Harry died in 1902. After Sara's death GW moved his family to Mahoning Co. OH where a couple of his older girls married (My grandmother Icia married Ray Porter Beckman). I have no idea how long he stayed there but I don't believe it was long. GW took the rest of the Children to Minnesota. Pine Co. Willow River. Now I am trying to locate where Sara Ellen Pringle Maskrey is buried. Did she die in Mercer Co? Mahoning Co. or Pine Co. MN. I believe it is Mercer Co. But I am trying to locate where she is buried or her obituary. As far as where she is buried I believe that if we could locate the grave of his first wife in Sandy Lake or their child Harry Maskrey she should be near by. Sarah died in 6 Aug of 1903. Can any one help me? My Beckman Line is actually part of the above line Icia Maskrey met and married Ray Porter Beckman in Mahoning county but they moved back to Mercer Co. 1925 est. They are buried in Fredonia. Joy Fulgham

    1. [PAMERCER-L] KIRKNER in Greenville
    2. Nom De Nette
    3. Hello Mercer County people! I'm writing from Youngstown, Ohio and I'm looking for info on one of my husband's lines who came to this area from Greenville, PA in the late 1800's. I'm hoping someone can point me the way to either some info or sources of info in that area. I haven't worked in PA at all yet, so I'd appreciate all the help I can get. The people I'm looking for are: Henry R. Kirkner, born August 23, 1867 in Greenville. He died June 13, 1928 in Youngtown. His death cert for parents names and places of birth says unknown. His wife was Mary A. Smith born August 23, 1873 in Wales, d/o Bryan Smith and Ellen Dowd, she died in Youngstown February 5, 1918. Now, I suspect Henry's parents *may* have been a Reuben B. Kirkner and Margaret Rubert, both born in Germany. I suspect this because there was a William Kirkner who died here, also born in Greenville, who lived and is buried near my Henry, and I suspect they are brothers, and those are the parents named on William's death cert. (Not proof, to be sure, I know, but at least it gives me a lead). Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Happy hunting!
