Hello again, This looks like everyone's big chance to sum up their Mercer Co. research projects. I am researching the following Mercer Co. ancestors and names. An asterisk indicates that I have information on origins earlier than Mercer Co.: *John B. WINDER (b. 1795 Skerton, Lancashire, England) +*Elizabeth UBER (b. 1805) Elizabeth was a daughter of *John UBER, one of the four pioneering Uber sons of German immigrant Peter UBER and Anna Maria ZIEGLER. The four brothers came to the Amsterdam area ca. 1796 from Westmoreland Co. I would like to find any information available concerning the wife of John UBER, or the ultimate fate of any records of the German Reform Church at Amsterdam (if they existed at all). Peter UBER was a communicant of the Old Zion (HARROLD) Church in Westmoreland Co., and I seem to have information that his son John married a Catharine HARROLD, b. 1784, but the source of the information is an enigma to me at this time. Next family: John B. WINDER's son Christopher Cribs WINDER 1834-? +Catharine Uber (1837-?) Catharine was daughter of *Michael R. UBER Jr., a son of *Michael R. UBER Sr., brother of the above mentioned John UBER. Shocking, no? Micahel Jr.'s spouse was Magdaline KEENER (1812-1883). I suspect that Magdaline's parents were Peter (?-1834) and Elizabeth KEENER/KEIHNER of Westmoreland Co. More information on Magdaline's line would be appreciated. I am still trying to figure out who Michael UBER Sr.'s spouse was- Brown & Runk mentions a Magdalena HEARLY , but other information (again I am mystified as to origin) says she was a SMITH (1794-?). More information on Magdalena's spouse would be appreciated. Next family: Rob Seaton WINDER (1861-1946) +*Jane Melissa MCKEE (1867-1948) Jane was the daughter of Alexander J. McKee (b. 1832 Ireland) and Mary Ann CINNAMON. I have no other information on Mary Ann. Alex's dad was David MCKEE (b. 1785, Ballibay, Monaghan Co., Ireland, d. 1851 Mercer Co.). His spouse was Jane Elizabeth SMITH (b. 1786, Ireland, d. 1851, Mercer Co.). They had 11 children. Any further information on origins of this convanenter family in Ireland would be appreciated. Next family: *Benjamin TAYLOR (1821-1879) of Greene Co., Pa., . +*Elizabeth SILVEUS (1824-1879) of Greene Co., Pa. after 1850. I don't know much about the origins of the TAYLOR family in Greene Co., other than the father was Joseph TAYLOR from Virginia, and the mother was Elizabeth WILSON, a descendant of a drummerboy WILSON who fought in the Revolutionary War. Ben & Betsy settled in the Jackson Center area. There is quite a bit known about the SILVEUS line, going back to German immigrant William SILVIUS in the mid 1700s. Elizabeth's parents in Greene Co. were *David SILVEUS and *Mary BOWMAN. Some of the information for this family listed in Brown & Runk's 1888 biographies is incorrect. Any detailed information for these SILVEUS or BOWMAN families would still be welcome. Next family: Ben's son Benjamin Anthony TAYLOR (1861-1947) +Nancy Jane MCCLURE (1862-1909). I know nothing about Nancy's ancestors. Next family: Ben + Nancy's son Benjamin TAYLOR (1884-1961) +*Nora MCBRIDE (1878-1920). Nora was the daughter of *Robert MCBRIDE (1843-1904) and *Elizabeth MCCOY (1837-1912). Robert was the son of William MCBRIDE (b. 1815 Ireland, d. 1881 Mercer Co.) and Nancy SHAW (b. 1816 Ireland, d. 1850, Mercer Co.). Any information on the origins of the MCBRIDE and SHAW families in Ireland would be appreciated. Elizabeth MCCOY was the daughter of *William MCCOY (b. 1795, Virginia?, d. 1866, Pine tp., Mercer Co.) and *Jane GILMORE (ca. 1801-1807). William MCCOY was the son of Thomas J. MCCOY (b. 1754, Virginia, d. 1810, Mercer Co.) and Catherine PARK (b. 1754, Virginia d. 1828, Mercer Co.). Thomas and Catherine settled in Pine Tp. ca. 1797. Any detailed information on the ancestors of Thomas and Catherine would be appreciated. Jane GILMORE was the daughter of John GILMORE (of Ireland?) and Polly MORTIMER. Any details on the origins of John and Polly would be appreciated. Sincerely, Richard S. Winder (Richard_Winder@bc.sympatico.ca)

No, I haven't hooked up with Netscape yet. My mentor, Simon Lagree, hasn't given me time. And now he thinks I shouldn't take time to eat. Can you believe that man. He's an ok guy though. Without his help, I would be sitting here playing Solitaire like I did when I first got this---this ??? Blast off!! This should be a go. Confused.

You asked: Who are your Moons? I have lots of Moon marriages in my family. --------- Hi, Linda, Thanks for responding to my query. I have no idea who my Moons are! My grandfather wrote a brief family history in which he said his grandmother's name was Elizabeth Winger and her mother had been a Moon. That's all I have to go on. I am looking for a marriage between a man named Winger and a woman named Moon in the late 1700's. Their daughter Elizabeth was born in 1794 in PA - probably in Westmoreland county but that is unproven. She married John Heasley and they moved to Leesburg (Blacktown) Mercer county after 1821. Does any of this sound familiar to you? Betty Crouser Stumpf Fullerton, CA ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com

I would love to hear from any other UBER, CAREY and RODGERS researchers! --Steve Seiple sseiple@compuserve.com
Lucy, You mentioned Davis as one of the surnames you are researching. Do you know anything about Elliot Davis who married Caroline Crouser? They lived in Sandy Lake. Their children were Frederick, Jacob, Walter H., Samuel, Hetty J., Sarah J., Harry, and Oliver H.P. Davis. Elliot died in 1870. Sometime after his death, Caroline and some of her adult children moved to the Cleveland area. Does anyone know anything at all about this family? Elliott may have been from Venango County originally. Betty Crouser Stumpf ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
I'm looking for help or information on a piece of my Christman line in Mercer County, PA. This line originates in Lehigh County, PA and deals specifically with Johann Jacob Christman and his two wives. My specific question for this list relates to West Salem Twp and Good Hope Lutheran. Their story is a little convoluted, his wives being sisters. This is the best I can piece it together: Susanna Vogeli was born 5 aug 1784 probably Lehigh Co, PA, and died 29 mar 1847, in Mercer Co, PA. Sarah Vogeli was born 29 may 1792 in Macungie, Lehigh Co, PA, died 9 apr 1862, Mercer Co, PA. Susanna married Johann Jacob Christman on 14 Oct 1803 in Longswamp Church, Weissenberg Twp, Lehigh Co, PA. Sarah married Johann Jacob's brother Johann George Christman, probably around 1810. Jacob and Susanna subsequently moved to West Salem Twp, Mercer Co, PA along with several other families from that area of Lehigh Co. George died 12 dec 1840 in Lower Macungie Twp, Lehigh Co, PA. Susanna died 29 Mar 1847 in Mercer Co. Sarah (George's widow) married Jacob (Susanna's widower). Sarah died 9 apr 1862 in Mercer Co, and Jacob died the next month, 22 May 1862. All three are interred in Good Hope Cemetery, West Salem Twp, Mercer Co, PA, Jacob between Sarah and Susanna. The headstones are in German script. Would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on these folks, on Good Hope Lutheran records, or ANY CHRISTMAN information out of Mercer County. I've been to the cemetery and have seen the cemetery records. Doug Hill ccapdh@worldnet.att.net
Hello Everyone, Family sources note David Kitch died 28 May 1882 and is buried in Deer Creek Cemetery, French Creek Twp, Mercer Co, PA. His wife Mary died 10 Oct 1879 and is buried in Deer Creek Cemetery, French Creek Twp, Mercer Co, PA. They are buried in the Andrews Lot. Their daughter Mary Etta married Samuel Andrews. This is an Independent Cemetery and not affiliated with any church. Does anyone have knowledge of the location of this unlisted cemetery? Thanks so much, Linda L. Smith
Betty, Thank you for thinking of us when you saw the Jewell headstones. They are not the family we were working on, HOWEVER, they are from another family I have that marries into the Jewells!! I had no idea that Ida married. She was still single in the 1920 census! Fred is her brother. Their mother was a first cousin to the James C. Jewell we were talking about. But not on the Jewell side -- on the mother's sides. I don't know if the Jewell side has a connection! Lucy

Just checking out the Mercer County Historical Society pages and in the Journal Entry details page is this! The Legend of Hell's Hollow by David F. Bower Wow! Cool. I remember what they told me of the legend. Would love to spend the 2 bucks and see what the "real" truth is. It was mandatory for all teenagers of Mercer to drive through Hell's Hollow with no headlights.....did that a number of times and it was scarry each time. Just a good memory all. Becky
Nancy and Lucy: Your talk about the Jewell surname was in my mind today as I was traipsing through the Rocky Glen Cemetery, Adamsville, Crawford County. Saw these three tombstones with that surname, hope they are of interest to you: 1. Ida JEWELL Harris 1887 - 1972 2. William R. Harris 1882 - 1951 3. Fred O. JEWELL 1893-1961 and Reba K. 1888-1962 (on same stone) Hope this helps! Kathy Brubaker kbrbkr@toolcity.net
