    1. [PAMERCER-L] Stateline (institution)?
    2. I have a relative whose daughter lived at Stateline in the 1930's or 1940's. Since she may have had Down's Syndrome, I'm wondering if Stateline is an institution. It could be in OH. or PA. The parents lived in the Hubbard, OH. area. Joani

    3. Soni, Solomon Firster will be coming up next. What I could locate on Irvin Amon: (also shown as Irwin ??) mustered in 25 Feb 1864, wounded Cold Harbor, VA, 2 June 1864, died 14 June 1864, buried Arlington National Cemetery. Widow's pension claim filed 9 Sep 64. Removed from Arlington to Deer Creek Cemetery, Stoneboro, Mercer County after the war. If you are interested, it would be to your benefit to send for the pension packet. It often contains beaucoup family information used to verify the claim. If you have any written communications or photographs, the historian would like to copy them for the regimental history or get copies given to him as he is a working stiff like the rest of us. This history project is a very large one because members came from Beaver, Mercer and Allegheny Counties, and maybe a few others. Mac

    2. Hi, I'm new to this list and would like to contact someone that might know something about STEELEs being in Sharpsville in the time slot of 1868-1869. 1. [PAMERCER-L] 139th PA Vols
    2. Fred C McCutcheon
    3. Rooters, The gentleman doing the history on the PA 139th is looking for the descendants of Lt Ephraim Grace, killed in action in the Wilderness 5 May 1864 and buried in Wolf Creek Township. A descendant he had talked to several years ago, named Grace, had two photos that he could not identify. The researcher now has a group photograph of all the officers and would like to match names and faces. Any other 139th inquiries welcome and will be answered as time and availability permits. Aside to Jim Sterrett; Company A was from Mercer County. A large portion of the regiment was from Pittsburgh and Allegheny County. BTW Jim, my full name is Frederick Collier McCutcheon. <G> Mac

    1. [PAMERCER-L] Funeral notice
    2. Ed Lloyd & Family
    3. I have a copy of my grandfather's funeral notice/obit. But I also found interesting that there was a notice written up about the funeral service. Thought I'd type it in because of all the local names in it. (December 1955) Long Service A largely attended and impressive funeral service for O.L. Long of 57 Buhl Blvd., was held at the L. Trevor Sample Funeral home at 2 p.m. yesterday in charge of Dr. William L. Wishart. Burial was in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Mr. Long, who was treasurer and a director of Sawhill Tubular Products, Inc. and a prominent local civic leader, died Saturday in Sharon General Hospital following an extended illness. He was 64. Turner, Henry Roemer, Jr., Louis J. Wiesen, J. B. Myers, C.H. Albright, James A. Connelly, Ray Rowney, S. B. Doyle, Carlton Shilling, Earl E. Morgan, and Phillip Ellovich. Also I have a list of district deaths (I can't figure from what news paper) of Tueday, December 1955. (Perhaps one of these names will help someone.) District Deaths Mrs. William R. HOWE,(age unreadable), of 429 Crandall Avenue Youngstown, O. Mother of Persis Knapp, wife of Karl M. Knapp of Beaver. Funeral Wednesday from King Funeral Home, Youngstown. George W. 1. [PAMERCER-L] New GenConnect DATA Boards for Mercer Co.
    2. Michael L. Hebert
    3. I have activated some new DATA boards for Mercer County. These boards are FOR DATA ONLY and NOT for queries. Please don't use these boards to post queries or respond to data submissions. I am leaving the boards open for now and see how it goes. If a lot of query-type messages start getting posted, I will have to make them "read-only" where you have to submit the data through me and then I post it. So, please make my life easier and restrict your submissions to these boards to data only. I have not updated the Mercer County web site yet with these new links, but here they are if you have data you would like to start submitting to them: Bible Records: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/MercerBibl Biographies: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/MercerBios Deeds: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/MercerDeed Obituaries: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/MercerObits Pensions: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/MercerPens Wills: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Pa/MercerWill Enjoy! 3. Walt again, I just ran my eyes down that list again, and saw the surname STILES. My friend, Ken Stiles, has gobs of geneological into, and he's a member of the Stiles family association. He has one ancestor who lived north of Pittsburgh, but I'm not sure it's on the Stiles side. Still someone in his group may have info for you. If you want to answer off list, my email address is (nhagenliddle@compuserve.com). Nancy Hagen-Liddle

It recommends to see Bate's "History of PA Volunteers," (1869-71, in 5 Volumes, PA State Printer, Harrisburg, PA). Chapter 16 does list a number of units from Mercer Co., PA and gives the names of those recruited into each unit as follows (about 20 pages): 39 Reg.10th Reserves, Co. B and G. 57 Reg., Co. B, C, D, E, F, and I. 76 Reg., Co. B. 77 Reg., Co. E. 100 Reg., ("Roundheads") Co., G. I have the 1989 Morningside Book on the Roundheads by Gavin. 139 Reg., (some from Worth Twp.) Co. A. 140 Reg., Co. B. 142 Reg., Co. A. 145 Reg., Co. G. 169 Reg., Co. A and D. 211 Reg., Co. D. The names are listed in alphabetical order, so I could go through it and search for certain Names for you. What names are you looking for? Oh by the way, I went to the Millbrook one-room school in 1939 for the 3rd grade. It is a two-story brick building with one room on each floor. I noticed your post on Feb 23. What was the Surname of your wife? My Sterretts came from Irwin Twp., Venango Co. right next to Worth Twp. in Mercer Co., PA. 1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] Re: PAMERCER-L CIVIL WAR
    2. Jim, thanks for the reply. The particular individual I am looking for is Lysander J. McFarlin. He was born in Coitsville, Ohio just over the border from Mercer County in 1835. He was orphaned at the age of 6 and I am not sure of who raised him and one sister and one brother, but possibly his mother. She was Melissa Hard (McFarlin) who died in 1885 living with her daughter and son-in law William Brackenridge III in Viola, Illinois. An entry in John Anderson McFarlin's bible says that his brother Lysander was a prisoner in Andersonville Prison in the Civil War and died there. His older brother John Anderson McFarlin married Lavina Wick Kimmel in 1855 and bought a farm in Mercer County in 1861. John and Lavina had 8 children. One of them Elizabeth Lillian McFarlin married Thomas Harrison Northcote in 1890 in the Millbrook Area. They farmed just northeast of Millbrook. They had 5 children. One of them Grace Lillian Northcote was my wife's mother. The four other kids were Hazel Ora, Vera Blanch, Paul Wick and Edgar William I believe that John Anderson McFarlin was also the Postmaster at Centretown, Worth Twp. John was 78 when he died in 1901 Thomas Harrison Northcote was on the school board for Worth Twp. Thomas died in 1941 when he was 75 years old. Most of the family is buried in the Union Home Cemetery just SE of Millbrook. I must say that I have met some of the greatest folks while digging in the fertile farm fields of Mercer County. I have learned so much and yet have so much more to learn. Living high in the Colorado Rockies it seems that Mercer County has become my second home. I study maps and history so much that it is almost as familiar as my back yard. Searching NORTHCOTE McFARLIN KIMMEL WICK HOWE MOORE SOPHER EDMUNDS KINGSLEY Reischman Ordoff Osburn Gilmore Ritenour Shaw McConnell Focht Fascetti Uber Ponikvar McGowan Watts Turner Stiles Urey Grim (Grumm) Mauger Dank Kilgore McCurdy Hodgson Glenn Montgomery Most are from various parts of Mercer County but have ties to Venango and Trumble/Mahoning County Ohio. Pretty heavy in the Wolf Creek watershed area. Thanks for your ear all. Walt
