    1. [PAMERCER-L] DAR
    2. Hi Listers, At the gravesite of my 5g grandfather, Benjamin/Benjaman Williams, there is a plaque indicating that he was a "Revolutionary Soldier", and it states that the "Plaque [is] placed by Mercer Co. DAR". I haven't had any luck with the national DAR indexes. Is there someone who can help me figure out how to contact ther Mercer DAR? Thanks for your help, Jennifer

    1. [PAMERCER-L] Mattix obit
    2. Debbie Hoffman
    3. Dear Gretchen, I was in contact with the President of Gen. Society and gave her the date and page number for the obit on your Mattix. She will be making a copy of it for you. We have abstracted the years from 1878 - 1928 and then I believe from 1951 - 1999. We are working on the years 1928-1951 now. We are having them put into a data base and hopefully all the obits will be located. And Hickory Township was what is Hermitage, Mercer Co., PA now. The Oakwood Cemetery lists.....W. Mattix interred Dec. 5, 1914 age 82 y Section I Lot 131 Civil War. I thought he would of been buried in Clarksville where many "Mattock's" had lived. Regards, Debbie

    3. Bob, If you don't get any takers, ask the New Castle, PA Public Library for help. You can reach them at <reference1@newcastle.k12.pa.us>. The genealogy staff is very helpful. Also, there is a Hickory Township just NE of New Castle. Good luck! Larry --- BobWeso@aol.com wrote: > Would someone be willing (and able) to look up an > obit for Elijah W. MATTOCKS > (or MATTIX) ? 2. Hi It was so nice to meet you and I was really happy I was able to go to the picnic. Thank you for the kind invitation Just home from Andover in time for a 7 hour power outage. My computer is being repaired (this is an old laptop without a cd drive) I did but the cd, but cant use it yet. Re: Gr Grandfather Theodore Marion Struble (1916), My gr grandmother Olive Ramsey Struble (1853-1928) and I suspect my grgr grandmother Margaret buried next to her in Unity Church cemetary, is there any info on Maiden name for Margaret Ramsey or her husbands first name, or her cause of death or obituary (basically anything!) available. In an old book on Hubbard history my cousins husband just gave me, it mentioned the Old Ramsey farm before the civil war, it was 59 acres in ohio and 250 in Pa. (Trumbull County)(or vice versa) her husband (Margaret) was not buried there so I think he died in Ohio. The Strubles came from Sussix County NJ (German Valley, Now Newton Co.) to Ohio in 1843, then move to Pa about 1880. They have a lot of Struble info in the Hubbard book, but only say the Ramseys were among original settlers, but I know they live d in Pa later (My mom remembers they had 3 houses on the same road as Unity or Lebanon church) Any help appreciated. And pardon sloppy spelling, a good friend is instant messaging me every 2 seconds, so I am going to send this as is, with apologies. My mom said they were McGregors, but I am not sure that she is sure. They were also related somehow to Sewell and Marquette family. Thanks in advance, for any help Karen oncebolan@aol.com

    2. Would someone be willing (and able) to look up an obit for Elijah W. MATTOCKS (or MATTIX) ? Believed to have died in Hickory Twp., (Sharon?), Mercer Co. on Dec. 2, 1914 - the date on the tombstone. The Office of Vital Records states they have no certificate for him, so I'm wondering if that date is wrong. Thanks for your help. Gretchen

Hi Hal: >From Volume 4 of the Mercer Co., PA Cemetery Inscriptions, p. 100: Methodist Cemetery, Pine Twp. This cemetery is located at the intersection of TR 173 and the Cranberry Road, north of Grove City, PA. There was a Methodist Church here in the 1873 Atlas. It lists only Janet Smith Milner 1858-1898 >From Volume 5, p35: Woodland Cemetery, Pine Twp. This cemetery is across 173 from the Methodist Cemetery, north of Grove City, PA. I can give you the name & phone # of the man who keeps the books (the burial log and records) on this cemetery. I had to go to him to find the marker for one of my Tinker cousins. The marker was not located anywhere near where Vol. 5 said it was. Her husband was buried next to her, but without a marker. He was not mentioned in Vol. 5, but the man had the record of his burial. It seems to me that a Milner family moved from Grove City, PA to Palo Alto, CA in the early 1950's where they owned and operated a motel and joined the Methodist Church. I have met them. My mother tutored one of the Milner children in Grove City, PA in the 1940's. It lists: Frank Milner 1860-1930 Betty M. 1871-1951 (on the same marker) Leonard B. Milner 1892-1924 Margaret 1892-1921 (on the same marker) Leonard and Frank's markers are adjacent to each other. Jim Sterrett/Palo Alto, CA sterrett@ix.netcom.com 650-948-2726

    1. [PAMERCER-L] index to 1870 census of Greenville Boro.
    2. John MacDonald
    3. Hello listmembers, The index of the 1870 census for Greenville Borough is available. As with the other indexes, this is an alphabetical listing, by surname, of each individual found in the township . This index also includes the page number as found in the microfilmed census books, the family number, the first name, and the age of each individual. If you would like the complete census information for an individual or family, I can send the entire township census as an attached file in TEXT format. Any word processing program should be able to open the file. PLEASE NOTE: due to my time restrictions, I am unable to look up and send the information for specific individuals or families. If you request this index, I'll add you to my mailing list and you will receive future indexes automatically. If you want to receive this index ONLY and do not want to recieve future indexes, please make a note of that in your request. This census is being is transcribed as part of the GenWeb Census Project. Before being posted on their web site, a transcription must be proofread. In the interest of helping Mercer County researchers, I am making this transcription available as I finish each township. Please be advised that this has not yet been proofread! 2. Norma Fischer
    3. I investigated a murder which occured in Mercer County in the same time frame. I went to the Recorders Office in the Mercer County Court House with names and approximate dates and found pages of records of the incident; the suspects--two women--the murdered man and all the gory details. The court proceedings from the arrests through to the hearings and the verdicts were written by hand. If I were you I would take the names, Tate/Tait, and the approximate time of the purported murder to the Courthouse and ask for help in finding arrests in Sharpsville for any type of crime which is connected with Tait/Tate. Then you could go from there. Are you close enough to this area to do this? If not, and you don't have anyone to check this out for you, let me know and I'll see what I can find. By the way, I know the Tait name well but most of them are--or were--from the farming area of northwestern Mercer County.
