Just a reminder that I have changed the URL for the index to the SWPA Township Maps. The old URL should redirect to the new site, but just in case, here it is: http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~mcclell2/swpamaps/ Click on the SWPA image map to get the county, then click on the county map to get the desired USGS township map. IMPORTANT: Most of the county sites have a link directly to their image map and the maps reside on the county's RootsWeb (or other) site. This is just an index map for all of the SWPA counties I have scanned (and a couple on the periphery that have not been scanned). mailto:ed.mcclelland@erols.com Alexandria, Virginia Member HWG
I am having trouble trying to use my CD I had tried Word perfect and I wonder if that ruined it somehow, I have windows 3.1 as I am using this old 1990 laptop while someone is trying to extract my geneology data base from my Cherynobil worm destroyed desk top. The version of works I have asks data base, spread sheet or wp, then if I want it in dos or not, I have tried every combination to open, and all I am getting is machine language. I know it must be something I am doing wrong, but I don't know what else to do. I am so much trying to get more Ramsey names, because I have found such large data bases of them and have so many letters from Ramsey list that I cant confirm or deny any relation because I can't find the male first names. Hi I would be very grateful if someone could look up these obits for me, I will put them in order of my wish to see them as I realize I am asking a lot. All of the following are buried in Unity Church Cemetary (right around the corner from my grandfather Ira Struble's property) ((Thanks again to Janet for looking them up for me)) #1 Margaret Ramsey , died 3/8/1903 (I am pretty sure she is my gr gr gran and I want to double check her maiden name, and find out her husbands name, as Ramsey's are numerous) #2. Olive Ramsey Struble , died 1928 (greatgrandmother) #3. Amanda M. (Ramsey) Brambraugh, died 4/2/1882 #4. Robert G. Ramsey, died 2/9/1882 #5. Theodore Marion Struble, died 1916 I want to know Margaret's maiden name, and her husband's name the most, as that is what I know the least about, alo Amanda and Roberts siblings. If you can only do one, PLEASE DO MARGARET, just that info can keep me happily searching for weeks. I need to find out what the D in her husbands name is for, there are soooo many Ramseys! My cousin Doris (Faust) Metz , /(Black, Salisbury, Sowell(?)/ gave me a book from 1975 with a history of Hubbard, in it it talks about the old Ramsey place apparently sold before the Civil War, which had 59 acres in one state and 150 in another, as we drove from Hermitage Plaza toward Unity cemetary and somewhere before Lebanon church (Ithink) my mother pointed to a spot and said there had been 3 Ramsey houses on that property. My grandfather's ( Ira Struble, !883-1972) address used to be RD# ! Mercer Pa, later it said Bend Road, I-80 cut his property in half. As my grgrgranduncle David Struble lived in Ohio very close to this old Ramsey place, I assume Olive Ramsey who married his brother was likely a daughter of that family. Thanks in Advance!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If there is anything I can do from here to help the group, I would love too, I am able to go to Cuyahoga County Archives, and I would be willing to buy materials to help scan or transcribe them for the web. Greetings....... I just received my copy of the new CD (Mercer Co. Cem. Index). It is a great contribution to Mercer County genealogy!!!! My Mac accepted it with relish, opening each data base thru Claris Works and translating them to the Mac format. Thanks to all the volunteers who made this possible. Hello, I'm new to your list and wanted to post the surnames I am searching for in hopes someone else is looking for the same. They lived in Mercer Co early/mid l800's Robert McKean/McKain/McKane (I've seen it spelled these ways) married Sarah DeCamp, they had 13 children: 1.James; 2. George; 3. John; 4. Joseph; 5. Robert; 6. Sarah m/James Leyland; 7. Polly; 8. Rosanna; 9. Agnes m/Ezekiel Currier; 10. Jane m/John Paddock; 11. Elizabeth m/ J. B. Kean; 12. Margaret m/Samuel Wilson; 13. Susan m/ Noseller (?). Sarah DeCamp was the sister of Susannah DeCamp who married David Sample/Semple, she also had a brother George W. DeCamp who lived in Mercer Co. Any help or leads would be appreciated very much. Pat
I am searching for the children of Isaac L. Thomas and his wife Mary Anne Fink. This couple is listed in the 1850 Census as living in Springfield Twp. Isaac was born in 1790 in Chester County, PA, and Mary Anne was born in 1796 in Huntingdon County, PA. Hanna, Maria and Lucinda are the three children listed in the 1850 census, Hanna as being 17, Maria, 14, and Lucinda, 10. Another daughter Tamzen is listed in another household, and she was 15 at that time. I do know that there was another son, A. W., but I do not know his given names. I recently discovered that there were thirteen children in this family, and I would like to discover any information about any of them. I shall gladly share what I have on this family, as well. Reposting my family lines which have been taken back to late 1700's: Sharps, Munnells, Rices, Jones, Elders, Neelys and associated lines. Harry
I realize I went into a long rambling thing on my last letter, but I also was hoping I could find out where D. Ramsey father of Amanda was buried. I assume he died before 1903 (probably because Olive moved to Pa in 1880 and Olive, Amanda and Robert, are all buried in Unity with Margaret, who I am pretty sure was their mother, and he doesnt seem to be there , I am guessing he was buried closer to Hubbard. David Struble is buried in the Old Methodist cemetary in Hubbard which I am told is on Rte 7, so if anyone knows how I could find who is there, I would appreciate it. Also, my gr aunt Florence Struble born 1876 was a member of the DAR so I am curious if it was through the Ramseys or Strubles (Strubles came to Phila 1743 and moved to Sussex Co NJ, in German Valley (now Long Valley, Newton County), they lived in the Rhineland (Oldenheim/ Rhineheissen and also Alsace/Lorraine) Palentine and I am very curious if that is why they came,(many family members there died in 1738) as the terrible hardships of the Palentates reminds me of the hardships suffered by my fathers side, as famine Irish. Also I find it ironic that my Irish side suffered for their Catholic faith, and my German/French may have suffered for their Protestant faith. Also in the mix is the irony that the Ramseys were most likely Scotch Irish and therefore at odds with my Irish. I have found many fascinating web sites with the histories of those tragedies, Geneology sure makes history interesting doesn't it? I also found a family member in the Pa 115 Regiment Bucktails and that web site was very interesting too. Well I won't strain your hospitality any further this time! ((collective sigh of relief is heard in cyberspace)), but here is a cute little thing you might enjoy. We at the Society are also available to look up any persons in the books for you. Also, we have access to the obituaries, if they were published and you have the date. Within the next year, we hope to have all the newspaper obituaries abstracted and it will certainly make life a lot easier for all volunteers. There are 122 years of newspapers to go through. We have 60 years of the papers abstracted already. 35 additional years have been done previously however, we wish to go over them to see if many were missed. That leaves us with 27 years we haven't touched yet. We only started about a year ago so feel we are moving right along. The Sharon Newspapers start in 1876. We abstracted the marriages and births that were in the papers before 1920. I might add it is a small group doing the abstracting. If we can be of help please let us know. The All Name Index for Mercer County Cemetery Books is done in Microsoft Works. I wish to apologize to anyone having a problem with the CD. It is done in works. (I didn't have any problems, however I have works, word and Office 97, so didn't think about it.) The person who did the work on them failed also to mention to me that it was done in works. I know it is a great tool, even for me here in Mercer County, PA and I have all the books. However, it is great to be able to go to one area and see all the names and then know which book to go to for the additional information. If there is anyone who cannot run the Disk and wants their money back please get in touch with me personally and we will make arrangements to get the disk back and refund your money. Again, I wish to apologize for the inconvenience you are having. Beverly Liston, President, Mercer County Genealogical Society bliston@infonline.net

I haven't posted here forever, and my research has been on the backburner lately. However, I now throw myself on the mercy of you all with, what I assume, is an incredibly stupid question. I got the Mercer County Cemetery Index CD today and can't figure out how to read it. It's not that I'm totally inexperiened in these things, but I'm at loss. How do you use it. I've got an IBM with Windows95 Thankfully yours, Marley Researching: BRONDER
Today at work (at a high school) we could not use our offices because the cleaning crews came in so we went to the book room to do some sorting and arranging. As I scanned the shelves that records and unused books were kept on I found some American Heritage magazines. Two had interesting and informative articles. December 1979, Vol. 31 No. 1 had an article titled "The Great Enumeration" which tells about the census. Aug/Sept 1982 had an article titled "Genealogy: The Search for a Personal Past." Joanne

Hi Marley, I was waiting for someone else to experience the same thing I ran into. Fortunately I have a son who is into computers, and we figured out the index was in the format of a Microsoft works file, so we got a copy of Microsoft Works and were able to open the files with no problems. Hal

If ou know your comfort Hayes lived in VT which we found then NY then PA this has to be the family. I still think you should get a record of the 1850 Census, I think then you will be able to see if this is the father or the son. I still think the comfort you have born 1770 is the father. If his brother was born 1806 there would be 36 yrs between them and even back then it wouldt have been too big of time span between siblings. Have the Lookup see what it says on the 850 Census of Crawford Co. pg. 327 Washingon town. for Comfort Hayes. You can check with the CT Gen Web page to see if they have any additional information on Comfort Hayes. I am sure if you check with Genessee Co in NY they may have information on the family.the same in PA . Let me know how the census lookup does. Marge from N.J. --part1_3ea1c12f.24c76a43_boundary--
