    1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] PATTERSON
    2. I saw the name Patterson and just had to give this a try: I found out my great-grandfather, Albert Dillinger, who was born in Mercer Co., had 2 sisters. I only know this because they are mentioned in his obit. in 1923. One of the sisters is a "Mrs. E.M. Patterson" , and the other is a "Mrs. J.L. Cole" - both of Sharon. Any info on a Dillinger marrying a Patterson or a Cole in late 1800's or early 1900's would also be appreciated. Thanks Kathy

    1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] Census lookup?
    2. Hi, all, Forgive me if this is a repeat request, but I am not sure I had the address right earlier and wanted to be certain it reached the right parties. I have received information that several members of my early family may appear on the Mercer Co. census of 1860. So far, I only have the names of heads of households, and my missing link may appear on the census as one of the children in the household. The surname is Dillinger. More specifically, Lewis Dillinger appears as a head of household, p. 347, Jefferson Twp, Federal Population Schedule, PA 1860 Federal Census Index, ID# 50817246. I wish to know who else was in the household. Also, if there are other Dillinger surnames in this area, I would be interested in knowing about their families, since there were many possible brothers around, and my ancestor may be in one of those families. Please let me know if anyone can help me. Thank you, Kathy Dillinger Bird

    1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] Death dates.
    2. Would it be possible for you to get a local newspaper obit. for her? Perhaps someone at the library of the town she is buried in can help you locate the obit. - at least you have the year, and maybe there is some sort of index they can use. The obit. would give you the exact date, often the cause, and sometimes the names of other members of the family. Good luck. Kathy

    3. I am trying to find out a date of death for Mary Patterson 1818-1912. I ordered a copy of her death certificate. I only received back a No-Record Certification with the year 1912. Her tombstone also only includes the year, not the actual date. Does anyone have an idea where else I could get this information. Thanks. _____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Bid and sell for free at http://auctions.yahoo.com

    1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] Mercer Co. organizations
    2. Janet Stanko
    3. Hi Everyone! I am a member of the Mercer County Genealogy Society. Quoted below is a letter written by Beverly Liston, President of the Mercer County Genealogy Society. The letter was written in Feburary of this year explaining the society and their holdings. (The Historial Society is located in Mercer, PA near the courthouse and I am not sure of their holdings or hours). "The Mercer County Genealogy Society is a non profit organization staffed by volunteers. We are located in the Shenango Valley Community Library, 11 North Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon, Mercer County, PA. Volunteers are at the library on Tuesdays from 10:00 a.m. until around 4:00 p.m. During those hours all records belonging to the society are available for research and any help that we can give a person in locating records in our "Genealogy Library". Some of our resources are available ar all times that the library is open. We have other resources that are only available when a volunteer member is present. If you cannot be there on Tuesday, other times can be arranged by appt., usually on short notice. The regular library staff has a list of the telephone numbers to call. Dues in the Society are $10 per year. Dues include a one time search of the records for your surname (copying of pages is extra). A newsletter is published 8 times a year - Feb., Mar., April, May, Sept., Oct., Nov. and December. There are six meetings a year at the library - March, April, May, September, October and November - the third Thursday of the month at 7:30 p.m. A picnic is held in July at Buhl Farm Park. The Genealogy holdings consist of Cemetery Books for not only Mercer County, PA (which were done by volunteers from the society in 1970's and includes all locatable cemeteries in Mercer County, PA) but other local counties; histories from many counties in PA (many not indexed); family histories which have been donated to the Society; city directories (both books and on microfiche); Mercer County Courthouse records of marriages (1885 - 1946); deaths recorded (1893 - 1905); births recorded (1893 - 1905) and Delayed Birth Certificates. Microfilm of all the Sharon Papers (mostly are complete - there are a couple of periods in the early papers that are missing). Abstractions of the births and marriages in the early newspapers (1876 - 1920) are nearly 100% completed. Deaths have been abstracted from the newspapers (1876 - 1920) and 1952 to the present. These are all being computerized at this time. It is an ongoing project being done by the volunteers. Years between 1920 and 1952 are being worked on by the volunteers. An obituary can be found, if it was published in the Sharon Papers, copied and sent to you for a nominal fee. We have microfilm or microfiche of the following: Mercer County, PA census records; some church records of Mercer County; some funeral home records; miscellaneous Trumbull County, Ohio census records; various other county census records; Mercer County Poor Home Records; a few rolls of Ship Passenger Lists from New York. We will soon have our own web site and all the holdings of the society will be listed there. Officers are Beverly Liston, President - bliston@infonline.net Jane Rodgers, Vice President - bjr@infonline.net Toni Sheehan, Secretary Linda Dudzenski, Treasurer Loretta DeSantis, Librarian <lorgen@infonline.net> Paul Corbett, Past President Peggy Ruggles, Newsletter Editor A query can be advertised in our newsletter for $2.00 per surname for non members. Beverly Liston, President of the Mercer County Genealogy Society" I hope that this letter explains about the society and if anyone has any questions please write to one of us.
