    1. [PAMERCER-L] New CC for Mercer County
    2. Michael L. Hebert
    3. Hello everyone - I would like to officially introduce the new CC for Mercer County, PA. She is Teri Brown (Sanchoinc@aol.com) and she now has her new Mercer County pages up at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~pamercer/ The transition has been very smooth and painless (at least for me) and I'm sure Teri will do a fine job with the site. I have enjoyed being a part of the PAGW family for the past nearly 3 years. It is merely too many demanding job duties that are calling me away from my post and not any disdain for PAGW or USGW. There just aren't enough hours in the day to keep up with things. So, please welcome Teri aboard and good luck to Teri and the rest of the PAGenWeb Project. Mike Mercer County Coordinator Emeritus (title coined for me by Teri!)

    1. [PAMERCER-L] 1909 History of Mercer County for sale
    2. John MacDonald
    3. I apologize for the following commercial message, but it seemd not unappropriate to put it on the list. I ordered a copy of the two volume 1909 History of Mercer County (edited by J. G. White) from Higginson Book Company, then cancelled my order a few days later when I located an original set of the books. However, I recently received the copy from Higgonson anyway - evidently they didn't process by cancellation. It seems silly to return it when others may be interested in it. I paid $117.75 for the two volumes and am willing to sell them for $90 - I'll pay the shipping. If anyone is interested, please drop me an e-mail. First come, first served. Thanks, John MacDonald 1021 Hancock Road Williamstown MA 01267-3021 413-458-0056 macillus@bcn.net (ps - I'm nearly finished with the transcription of the 1870 census of Hickory township. An index should be available early next week. I'll post a notice on the list when it's ready)

    1. Serena/Surrena Families
    2. John DEARBORN, formerly of Greenland, New Hampshire, marriedabout 1801, probably in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, Hannah SERENA/SURRENA. I estimate she was born between 1773 and 1780. Her father was Joseph SERENA/SURRENA, Sr. Her mother is unknown to me. She was apparently deceased by 1794, as she does not figure into the documents I found in Westmoreland County. They both died in Crawford County, PA. SERENA / SURRENA descendants live(d) in Venango and Mercer Counties, PA, also. I welcome any communication with the descendants of Joseph SERENA/SURRENA. dick barr Syracuse, New York, USA

    2. Nancy Dobbins
    3. Hello- Does anyone know the date of death of Alexander White, a Revolutionary War soldier who married Rachel Henderson? The DAR Patriot index says he was born 1748 IR d p 1783 PA Does that mean he died in 1783? If so, he can't be the one supposed to be in Pine Twp. or Wolf Creek Twp. in 1888.... Anyone familiar with this family, plus his daughter Elizabeth who married Hugh Watt? Nancy Dobbins

    1. [PAMERCER-L] HAYES FAMILY TREE
    2. I have traced my Hayes family (with the help of many kind people, and newfound relatives) all the way back to Scotland! My grandfather used to live on S. Main St. in Greenville, and sold his house to his son, Ira Dale Hayes. So far as I know, his children, Sarah (Sally) and Dale (Butch) still live in Greenville. It turns out we are also related to Pres. Rutherford B. Hayes. But the search continues! Family stories have us descended from Kings of Scotland. Now I will attempt to confirm, or disprove, whichever the case may be! Happy Hunting! Dorothy James-Saxton

    1. [PAMERCER-L] FEATHER - NJ/PA
    2. Randy Seaver
    3. I am researching the FEATHER family of NJ and PA. The earliest known ancestor is Stephen FEATHER, who was a Revolutionary War soldier and died in 1804 in Westmoreland Co PA. He paid taxes in New Brunswick, Middlesex Co NJ in 1772. He had at least two sons, John FEATHER who married Mary WHEELER in 1785, and Cornelius FEATHER who was born ca 1777 and died in 1852 in Mercer Co PA. Both sons ended up in Mercer Co PA. Cornelius FEATHER's daughter Sarah married Henry CARRINGER about 1823 in Mercer Co, PA. I would appreciate hearing from you if you know something more about these families. Thanks. 1. [PAMERCER-L] Re: World War 1 Draft Cards
    2. I was quite excited recently when a message posted to this list gave instructions for ordering photocopies of WWI draft registration cards from the NARA at East Point, GA. I should have known it was too good to be true! The message claimed that for $.50, and by just supplying name and county, you could get copies of the draft registration cards. In today's mail I got a reply to my request for cards for my ancestors. Here is the gist of their message: --------------- The original draft registration cards remain boxed by state, county, and draft board order (alphabetically by last name at that point). The draft cards have been microfilmed, but again, in state/county/draft board order. To order photocopies of the records, you must submit a request form which can be ordered from NARA, Southeast Region. The forms can be ordered via e-mail (archives@atlanta.nara.gov), telephone (404-763-7383) or in writing (NARA, Southeast Region, 1557 St. Joseph Ave., East Point, GA 30344). To search for cards, you need full name of registrant, complete home address (including county), name of nearest relative. Additional info helps: birth date, birthplace, and occupation. The fee is $10 PER CARD (which includes both sides, you don't have to specifically request both sides). No fee is charged for a search when a record isn't located. No SASE is required. Walk-in customers can make copies of the records for $.10 per side. Individual regional archives have microfilm copies of the cards, and have differing policies regarding making copies from the microfilm. for further information about their holdings and services, a web address is provided: http://www.nara.gov/regional/atlanta.html ----------- Hope this helps anyone out there who was considering making a request for these cards. I wish I'd had the real facts before mailing off my check (yes, they did return it). Chris Cozadd CECozadd@aol.com

I just walked 3 cemeteries this summer and listed them on Marshall Co, WV site. I guess every one does it different. Thanks again for all the replies. Donna from WV
