According to the "Pennsylvanie Line" there is/was no West Middlesex Township. However, there is/was a West Middlesex Boro, in Shenango Twp, Mercer Co, PA. Hope this helps. meg JHami828@aol.com wrote: > Can someone tell me which township I should check for a family that I believe > lived in West Middlesex, PA. (1860 census)? My Irish came from Londonderry to Philadelphia before Mercer Co. Check out ISTG.rootsweb.com It is a database of almost 2000 ships, with about 10 lists added weekly and it is searchable. Marlene McFate Burkheimer Ames, IA
I think this was a common route, but immigrants from Ireland also arrived in Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Check out: Cyndislist.com Under "Immigration and Naturalization," there is a section called "Irish Immigrants." You'll see different points of origin and places of arrival. Can someone tell me which township I should check for a family that I believe lived in West Middlesex, PA. (1860 census)? There was not a West Middlesex, PA. township listed. Thanks, Joani H.
This William is related to James McKay, farmer, born 5/10/23 to Encas and Catharine McKay. James & his wife moved in with William when they came over.
Hi List, I just received copies of naturalization papers for William McKay. Unfortunately, they are don't belong to the William McKay I'm looking for (1809-1871) so I thought I would provide the details in case it is someone that one of the list may be reserching. William McKay Born about 1823 Arrived in New York from Liverpool in June 1842 Born in County Antrim, Ireland Residing in Cool Spring Hope this informatin helps someone. Would like to contact any of the Harry M. and Jessie T. Smith family who lived in Mercer Co. in the early 1900 to the late 1920's. Their children are William T., Jack G., and Nelson R. Daughters include Pearl W. Smith Mooney, a R.N. who graduated from Butler School of Nursing in 1927, (do not know her husband's first name), N. Catherine, and F. Barbara. Need some medical history on this family. After living in Mercer Co., they moved to Butler Co. Thanks for any information on this family.
I'm hoping to find more information about the family of William and Anna (Brown) Stevenson of Scotland. They lived in Hubbard, OH. in the 1870's and 1880's (census). However, they were somewhere in Pennsylvania before that time. One child was born in West Middlesex, PA. Joani
Hi Everyone, I've been away from this list for awhile. I wanted to let you know that I have put the Mercer Co. Revolutionary War Land Grants on the web for your use. I must warn you tho it will be very slow loading so please be patient. I typed this list, into a database about 5 years ago and a hard copy is available at the Mercer Co. Historical Society's office. It was typed from a copy of the handwritten list so there may be spelling errors due to illegible handwriting, but I feel fairly comfortable with the end result. You can review it at: http://www.pathway.net/twdarb/revwar Let me know if you have any comments. Tom Darby
Just wanted to let everyone know that my cousin Vonda Minner now has hard copies available of her book: Furrows of the Past Plowing into the Future: A History of Mercer County Agriculture. The book contains a lot of genealogical information on the families who settled those farms, as well as the history of the "century farms", the dairy princess and other agricultural activities in Mercer County. To see the surname list for her book, check this web site: http://www.humboldt1.com/~cealbert/furrows.htm (limited copies available). The new Mercer County Genealogy pages are up and running. Thank you to those who spotted a bad link or a floating picture and helped me fix the bugs. If you haven't seen the pages yet, take a look. We've changed a few things and added some new features: - Like a link to Ed Mc Clelland's Mercer County Township maps. If you haven't used his maps yet, you really should check them out. There's a link on the Maps page. - Also 1901 maps of Sharon, Sharpsville and Grove City. These have the look and feel of a postcard, but you can zoom in and out on them. You'll find links on the maps page. - Mercer County people. A listing of people with connections to Mercer County; each name is a link to a web page with more information about that person. Compiled from homepages at AOL, Geocities, and many others. - Online Obituaries. A list of Mercer County folks whose full obituary is somewhere on the internet (and of course, a link to the obituary). Check out the Obituaries page. And there are more good things to come - - - Mercer County Old Photos is just about ready to upload (this weekend). I received some great photos from Brent Morgan and Diane Knuckey. Start looking through your closets and shoe boxes; I know you'll have photos you want to add. - Military Information is also in the works. I am gathering information and links on the Civil War, Revolutionary War, World War I and II and Korea. If you have suggestions, materials, photos, links, or ideas please let me know. - Townships. I am working on a page for each of the Mercer County townships - including photos, histories, etc. If you have ANYTHING we can use here, please e-mail me. I'd like to have current photo of something (a landmark, building, etc.) in each township. So, if you live in Mercer County (or visit there) and own a camera.... Remember, these are your pages. I'm just helping them along. As always, I welcome you suggestions and ideas. Teri Mercer County Coordinator
Hello list members. The index for the transcription of the 1870 census of Hickory Township is (finally) complete. However, the file is so large (nearly 8000 individuals), that it's been necessary to break it up into 4 smaller files of approximately equal size: File #1) surnames A - D File #2) surnames E - L File #3) surnames M - R File #4) surnames S - Z You may request one or more of the files. It would be difficult to respond individually to fifty or more requests, each requesting a different combination of the 4 file; to save myself some time, I'll wait a few days until the requests for the files are made, then send the various combinations out to everyone as blind carbon copies. (Please note - this index does NOT include the residents of the borough of Sharon! Sharon was enumnerated separately from Hickory Township. It follows Hickory Township on the microfilm roll. I'm just beginning to transcribe it - over 3000 individuals. It should be complete in a month or so.) The new Mercer County Web Pages are great. Good job. Keep up the fantastic work. Jeanne
I am looking for information on William Franklin,b. 1798 in Mercer Co. died 1842 in Meadsville. His father was Johnathan Franklin. He had a Sister Samantha and a brother. By his first wife (name unknown) he had John, Samantha, Willian and Joseph. By Elizabeth McNutt he had Mary, Harvey, Rebecca & (my ancestor) Charlotte Isobel. After William died, they moved to Wisconsin and later Iowa. Rebecca was kidnapped along the way. Elizabeth remarried a man named Eastwood. Does this tie in with anyone?
