You should be able write and request order forms directly from them. I think they may be available over the Internet, I haven't checked for awhile. These forms can be used to order records relating to service before World War I only. With these forms you can order Bounty Land application files, Pension application files and Military service record files. Bounty Land warranty application files are based on Federal service before 1856. Documents in a bounty land warrant application file are similar to those in a pension application file. In addition, these files usually give the veteran's age and place of residence at the time the application was made. The forms that I have are called NATF Form 80. Thanks to you and all that commented on the web page, I'm glad it is of help. Tom Darby, Hermitage, PA.

Good Morning.......... I have no problem reaching the Mercer County web site. I have found that sometimes not having the latest browser software will result in being unable to connect to certain websites. Keep up the good work Teri :-)) Bob Bowers Lexington MA
I agree with everything on the Historical Society and county seat. I wish to add that there is a Mercer County Genealogical Society located at Shenango Valley Community Library, 11 North Sharpsville Avenue, Sharon, PA. The Genealogical section of the library is open when the library is - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (10-8pm). Friday and Saturday (10:00 am to 4:00 pm) and Sunday (just starting up again - 1:00 pm to 5:00 p.m.) Most of the Genealogical holdings are available for looking thru etc. However on Tuesdays, from 10:00 am to 3:00 or so the volunteers of the Society are available for help and helping you find information that we have. There is also information - that due to its nature of only copies know of is only available on Tuesdays. The Society also has the list of early death records, birth records (before 1906) list of Delayed Birth Certificates and Marriage licenses that were recorded up to 1946 (These items are only available on Tuesday) from the courthouse. If you are going to be in town on an off day, usually we can have a volunteer meet you on a day other than Tuesday. The library can call one of the volunteers. The Genealogical Society is in the process of abstracting all the old newspapers - births, deaths, marriages up to 1920. After that only the obituaries are being abstracted. This list at the present time is only available when a volunteer is there to access our computer. We do plan to put it on the shelves at a later time, however, it is being proofread at the present time. Beverly Liston, President, Mercer County Genealogical Society.

I've just heard back from AOL as to what the problem is reaching the Mercer County Genealogy site www.rootsweb.com/~PAMERCER You can download this information, as it is a rather lenghty explanation with several "fixes" for the problem. Basically the problem lies within the AOL software, the cache files and what version of their software your computer is running. I hope this helps those of you who have been having the problems viewing our site. I'm including the message as it was sent to me, so that you have the contact name, etc. at AOL, should you need further information from them. I'm happy to report that a lot of folks have seen our new pages - over 2600 "hits" (people looking at the main page) in the three weeks the new pages have been up. Just a thought regarding web page access: I discovered that AOL is sometimes finicky about letting me view web pages, so when that happens, I use netscape to view the pages. I've not had any problems getting to the Mercer Co, PA site - so far!

I am very grateful to all those on the list who gave such good information about the Mercer County genealogy research locations. Thanks to all. Sincerely, Linda Pierce Moore
Could someone who lives in the area please let me know what the county seat of Mercer County is? And is there a library or historical society there? If so, what is the address, phone number, hours of operation, and days it is open? I hope to make a trip through there sometime in mid-October and would very much like to visit the library or genealogical society, as my father's parents were from that area. Thank you very much. Sincerely, Linda Pierce Moore
Hey guys and girls, we have a new web curator for Mercer County. Teri is doing an outstanding job, but she is doing a complete changeover--for the better I think. I didn't have any trouble accessing the site with Netscape 4.5. Anyhow, there will be glitches until things settle down a bit. Ed McClelland, Alexandria, Virginia.
Normally each county record is $10 a search, successful or not. However, all of the County records have been microfilmed. The film maybe ordered for viewing at a local Family History Center (FHC). FHC are located in churches belonging to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. A roll of microfilm rents for about $3.50 for about 6 weeks. You can find the address in white pages of the phone book or at www.familysearch.org. For the records you mention, the films are: Birth: 1893-1905, 1 roll of film Deaths: 1893-1905, 1 roll of film Marriages: 1885-1917, 8 rolls of film The staff there will help you identify the roll you want and order it for you. See the web site for the hours, address and phone number. Look under 'Browse Categories' and then 'Libraries'. Here you will also find the 'Family History Library Catalog' Click to enter that search and enter Mercer for place and Pennsylvania for part of. You will get a complete listing of all the categories that films are listed under. The above films are under 'Vital Records' Hope this helps, Carlos ....
