    1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] Mercer County surnames
    2. John, I believe we have corresponded before on other surnames. I have quite alot of information of a MERCHANT family which originated abt 1700 in Glouchester Co., VA. Our line eventually went to South Carolina and then Texas. They were Quakers. I don't know if there is any connection, but let me know. Jane

    2. I'm looking for STEPHENSON... very specific, James and Hannah from England, lived in Stoneboro, Mercer Co. from 1862-65 until 1874-79 (can't place exact immigration to the States, or move to TN) They would have been living with James' father John, and children Wm. George, John, and Joseph. I need to verify the time frame they were in PA, as it is affecting my research on John's wife and her family. She was a PATTERSON, Ellen, with sister named Missouri and a brother named Charlie. Not sure if John married her in PA or not. Any help GREATLY appreciated. Patricia Penny

    3. If anyone wants to replace their existing cursors with genealogy-related cursors, you can download some from The Obituary Links Page at http://www.cribbs.net/obit/ Replace your pointer with a tree branch! Replace your hourglass with a blossoming family tree! Replace your background working cursor with a microfilm reader! Might want to print these instructions out! Just download the zipped file, GENCURSOR.ZIP Extract files into your C:\Windows\cursors\ folder Go to your Control Panel and click on Mouse Click on the Pointers tab Choose the BRANCH for your arrow Choose TREE for your second cursor Choose MFILM for your third cursor Actually, the second two are interchangeable. These are for those avid family researchers who bring the shovel to the cemetery researching project! Bill Cribbs The Obituary Links Page

    1. Re: [PAMERCER-L] Newspapers 1899
    2. Janet Stanko
    3. Hello Everyone! This is what the The Herald says will be in the 1899 newspapers: "The Herald which was only 35 years old at the turn of the century, was an eight-page weekly newspaper. The last eight newspapers of 1899 will be reproduced as closely as possible to the originals on the last eight Sundays of 1999 as we mark the end of the 20th century. Each weekly, six-page section will contain stories and advertisements reprinted from those editions as well as modern ads from local advertisers. The 1899 editions to be reprinted are from the weeks of Nov. 3, 10, 17, 24, and Dec. 1, 8, 15 and 29." The Mercer County Genealogy Society is in the process of taking these old newspapers and making and index of all of the deaths and marriages from 1878 to 1920. After 1920 they are only indexing the deaths. We are currently up to 1925. I will be saving the copies of the old newspapers that will be in tomorrow's paper. If you would like me to look for a certain name for anyone please e-mail me with the name and I will see if the names are mentioned. Just read in our local paper tonight (The Herald, Sharon, PA) that for the next 7 Sundays they are (to celebrate the new millennium I guess) going to reproduce the newspapers from the last 2 months of 1899. This should be interesting. Has anyone heard of any other papers doing something similar? Jo
