Hi all, I'm flying in from Vegas in July for the sole purpose of finding immigration papers on my ancesters. I know that my g.g.grandparents lived in Mercer Co. for 5 years, but it was after they had been in the states for 4 years before they moved there. I have a few questions. Is there a 'best' day to visit the courthouse? I am armed with their names, year of arrival to US, children's names, etc. With this much info, will I be able to acquire the info from the courthouse in one day's time? Is there any information or papers I should be carrying when I arrive at the courthouse (do I need a certain document, etc) How many hours can be estimated to achieve this (I only plan on being in town for 4 hours. Do I need plan for more?) Thanks for any help
I am looking for a Rachel Stewart born about 1801 who married Uriah Supplee. They lived in Mercer County. Also for parents of Jane Stuart(b 1807) who married Wm. Service in Allegheny County, Pa. Gobnait Ní Leocháin Genealogy: Confusing the dead & irritating the living.

Hi everyone This is my semiannual message on the KECKs and BROWNs of Mercer Co. No bites yet, but I'm still trying. I'm looking for information on Catherine KECK, b.October 10, 1810 in Greenville, Mercer County, PA. She is possibly the daughter of Peter KECK and Christina SMITH of Greenville who had a daughter named Catherine born around the same time. Catherine married Robert BROWN (parentage unknown), b.March 31, 1806 also in Mercer County. They had nine children, the first few of whom were born in Pennsylvania. Others were born in Huntington County, Indiana, where they settled in the 1830s. The birth dates of both are from a family Bible. I will be passing through Mercer County this summer on a trip back east, so if anyone has any recommended resources to consult to prove Catherine's ancestry, please let me know. One would think that with knowing their birth dates, it would be easy, but so far I haven't had any luck. Thanks, Sarah Nesbeitt [email protected]
Kim, My ancestor, William Stewart, had a brother named Charles. William was born in County Donegal, Ireland in 1738 and came to America with his mother, Rebecca Galbraith Stewart, in 1745. William's siblings were Charles, Robert, Frances and Margaret (also my ancestor). The dates would fit and the names are familiar. I tried to find more recent information, but, like you, could not. My copy is the Fourth edition, dated 1990. I refer to it frequently, and it is beginning to show the wear. I'd like to get a copy for the local historical society, too. The township maps, the list of villages and whistlestops, counties and townships, rivers and streams, etc. are very helpful. If anyone knows if SW PA Genealogical Services is still selling these books, and the current price, please share the information.
Excuse me, I goofed. It on the Westmoreland Co, PA Roots web page at http://www.pa-roots.com/~westmoreland/pennline.html Price $10 and well worth it. My 1983 edition has served me well.
