Helen have you tried the 1880 on line census at www.familysearch.com. Good Hunting, Carol
Thanks to Victoria, Norma and Wilma who replied to my question about SandyLake cemeteries. I don't know what their religion was, but I think the wife was probably Methodist. I don't know what the Dean's were. It's hard to track them down when I don't know the husband's first name. I am hoping to find her in a cemetery and hope there is a tombstone with both her and her husband's name on it. She was Emeline Bunnell Dean. I only know the Dean from her father's will in 1883 where she was given as Emeline Dean. The census on Herrigage Quest only has them indexed by the head of family. The first time I found her was in 1910 age 68 and a widow. She was then head of the family. I couldn't find her in 1920. Thanks for the kind help. Helen
can anyone tell me the names of the oldest cemeteries in Westmoreland? email direct; [email protected] thank you,
Helen - Main cemetery is Oak Hill, located about one mile south of the town of Sandy Lake in Sandy Lake Township. If you care to write for information, the address is Oak Hill Cemetery, PO Box 171, Sandy Lake, PA 16145. There are also two old cemeteries in the area. Yankee Hill, located near Oak Hill, and Rocky Spring, located about one mile north of the town of Sandy Lake. I do not know who holds the books for these cemeteries. Wilma Scott
OakHill Cemetery--Sandy Lake/Stoneboro. Are you interested in the area around Sandy Lake? Norma
Helen - I spent my youth growing up in Sandy Lake and can only remember 3 cemeteries there that I would actually consider being in Sandy Lake/Stoneboro - they are Oakhill - which is located not far from the elementary school, Yankee Hill, & St. Columbkill's which is a catholic cemetery (my husband's father is & other family members are buried there). There are 3 other cemeteries that I can think of that might also be included but they are a couple miles out of town - there are Fairview, Rocky Springs, & Carroll. I just wanted to respond to the person who was looking for Rachel Stewart of Mercer born 1801. I checked all my records and could not find a mention of her. I'm sorry. Laurel
Check with the Hubbard Historical Society. There is also a website regarding the Hubbard Bicenntennial. go to: www.google.com go to the advanced search area go to "with the exact phrase" type in: Hubbard Bicenntennial Look for the one that says: National Bicenntennial Commemorative Book Dedication Start reading at page 7, it mentions names of Stewart, Love, Jewell Stewart is a name that is still in Hubbard, OH. There is a Stewart-Kyle Funeral Home and a Stewart Furniture Store. Or put a message on the Trumbull Co., OH mailing list. Herriott is an East Palestine, Columbiana Co., OH name. There was a large Herriott Trucking Co. there for many years. You may want to check the Columbiana Co., OH mailing list. Just a few ideas. ----- Original Message ----- From: "KIM MACKLIN" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, May 01, 2003 1:41 PM Subject: [PAMERCER] John Stewart b. 1784 > Hi All I was wondering if anyone had information of the following family. If the papers you want can be found in a short time, they could probably be requested by mail.
Please contact the courthouse before going. The records are off site, so they will need to request for them to be brought to the courthouse for you. This happend to me three years ago. I believe they bring the records in to the courthouse on Wed and Thursdays. So call or write to them ahead of time. Good Hunting, Carol
If at all possible, I would allow myself more time at the courthouse. They may have to retrieve information for you from other areas in the courthouse or scan microfilm. It would be better than being disapointed after your long trip. There is also the Mercer County Historical Society bldg across the street with many resourses you would find interesting. Altho this is the county seat, it is a small town and not far from I-79/I-80. >From: [email protected] >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: [PAMERCER] question on courthouse >Date: Thu, 1 May 2003 23:08:01 EDT > >Hi all, > I'm flying in from Vegas in July for the sole purpose of finding >immigration papers on my ancesters. I have always found the Mercer County Historical Society very helpful. Here is a link to their page: http://www.mchspa.org/ if you call them or write to them for a fee they will search their records for you, it may be helpful to have this done before you come. THey may also have some very helpful tips or an index to where you can find things at the courthouse. It never hurts to ask.
