    3. Thank you, Bob. But my grandfather was born in 1882 so he would have been living in then Venango Co. The courthouse in Venango Co, Franklin, PA does not keep records before 1893. They sent me a letter today to that affect. Vital Records in New Castle, PA does not keep them before 1906. So I guess 1882 doesn't work for either source. I'll keep searching. Thanks for your help. 2. As you have already found out there were was no "formal" system in place for birth or death registrations for that year. The best you might hope for is to be able to locate the church they attended to see if they have a baptismal record which would give the birth date. Good Luck Beverly Pfeil Paquet Tucson

    1. Request for Birth Certificate
    2. Jim & Shirley Daugherty
    3. Hello Everyone..Maybe someone can suggest how I can get a copy of my grandfather's birth record. He was born James M. Johnston, August 16, 1882 in Oil City, Venango County, Pennsylvania. Since the Bureau of Vital Records in New Castle does not have records for birth before 1906, I wrote to the Register at the Venango County Courthouse. Today I received a reply from them that they only have records since 1893. Where do I go from here to get his birth record? Any help will be much appreciated. Thank you...Shirley Daugherty, Fort Wayne, Indiana but formerly Sharon, PA jdoc@iquest.net

    2. By the time of the Ohio 1810 census, Geauga County included parts of present day Lake and Ashtabula. By the 1820 census, Ashtabula's boundaries were the present day ones. Our state history says Ashtabula was formed in 1808 but according to the census records the aforementioned were the census boundaries. The only Ohio census records available for Ohio in 1800 and 1810 are Washington County which included much more area than the present day county. Tax records are the link to settlers before 1820.
