    3. Dear George: The picture of Jack's Run School should be in the new photos of McKeesport. It was a Versailles Twp now White Oak, now McKeesport Schools. Many older folks from White Oak and those who moved to McKeesport may have attended this one room school. It was the school of: Borlands - where Fort Reburn stands T. C. Jones Oliver Evans McClures Taylors Hoffmans Ludwick's Krebs Beech Heckman's Stadterman(s) Weddel(s) Dr. Thelma Dulany Versailles Township was one of the first places in Pennsylvania to have a woman as Supervising Principle. Mrs. Jessie Opperman nee Ripple of Ripple Road. She graduated from a "State Teacher's College" which was a two year program then. Aunt Jess was a Great-Aunt of mine. Students who attended Jacks Run School had regular reunions well into the 1960's. Also on the tax records- Stewartsville which is / was on Stewartsville Hollow Rd. that connects Lincoln Highway to Long Run Road was according to oral history in my family founded by Free Blacks before the Civil War. The Acie family was one of the old families in that area. They also attended Jack's Run School. My dad was a friend of Joe Acie - not sure of first name. So you might say that Jack's Run School was also one of the first integrated schools in our area. If the tax rolls say St..... or similar in Versailles Twp. then it is most likely Stewartsville. Finally a question of my own. Does anyone or in the McKeesport Achieves have any information on the Shaker Community that existed across Rt. 48 from the Temple of Hope / Hoffman's Green House, and was later known as Moss's Farm. Another odd fact - how about information about McKeesport Electing a Socialist Mayor in 1917? Who was he? What was his record? In those days when the mayor was a Republican for years and years even during FDR's administration - George Lyle - why the jump to a Socialist for one term? Marc M. G. Stauffer
