    3. George: In the 40's and 50's, if you traveled by Greyhound bus to Harrisburg, Philadelphia or all points east, East McKeesport was a very important place because the eastbound bus took Lincoln Highway/Route 30 to the Turnpike and stopped where the boulevard (the extension of Fifth Avenue/Lyle Boulevard) met Route 30. Many's the cold day/night I stood on that corner to go to Philly or points east when I was going to MHS and PSU. East McK. had great firemen's' parades (the Tiger Band always marched) in the summer and great dances (don't remember the name of the dance hall but it was a big sucker!). I doubt that beyond going through EMcK to get to someplace else via Route 30 into PGH or points east, EMcK was pretty much a nonentity. Jim Parmiter MHS '52 PSU '56
