    1. [PAMCKEESPORT] School & Teacher Project
    2. Thanks for the kind words Barb. You subscribers are the ones that make this fun and enjoyable!!! I have posted pages for the following schools: Lincoln, Green, MSHS (are we gonna make a seperate page for the old high school at top of spring), Francis McClure, White Oak and Centennial Schools. From my days there was also Walnut Street School (or was it the Ninth Street School?) Shaw Avenue School and Market Street School). I will make other pages as the info comes in. Please help me make sure the names of the schools are correct. We will start piecing this together from here. Based on Marc's teacher info, I have placed what teachers & schools go together. The following I am not sure of: Jim Steel - teacher, principal and member of class of 1932 Shelby Irwin Joe Lynch - father of Adam Lynch Wayne Mason Helen G. Malseed - class of 1926 and Speech & Debate Coach - best student was probably Hedda Bluestone Sherrapin producer of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Thelma Mermelstein - sister of Dr. Mermelstein Coach Ding Schaefer - History and Coached Football - from Windber, PA Glenn Schriber - class of 1966 Dutch Shample George Stoll Also let's not forget any of the other school staff. The janitors..groundskeepers..etc... If a teacher taught at multiple schools, I will place the teacher at each school. Also remember that you may comment on any teacher within good taste. :) If you don't want me to add your opinions with your name attached to a teacher's section, please don't write it to me. Sometimes we look at a teacher from our eyes when we were the "Student from Hell" lol OK gang let the games begin....tadaaaaaaHHHHHH Please remember that if you never write anything no one will know u are here!!!! :) George "Your Benevolent Dictator" Jenkins lololol

    2. Marge Quillen
    3. Hi All, I grew up as Margie Wilson. Wnet to Grandview School until 4th grade, then to South Park. High School was Shaw Avenue and MHS. We lived on Grandview Avenue, Baldwin Avenue, Hazel Street and Evans Avenue. My Mom was abartender at Evans Avenue Grill for 30 years at least. I left McKeesport when I went into the Army. First to Alabama then to Fort Hood, Texas for a few years. Returned to McKeesport and married "Jeep" Quillen. Lived on Soles St. until we moved to Virginia. I owned and operated a cosmetology school in Johnson City, Tennessee until my husband was diagnosed with terminal cancer in 1984. Now I work as a news paper correspondent for a paper in Tennessee during the day, and at night I'm night manager at a domestic violence shelter in Virginia in the town where I live. I miss everything about McKeesport especially the wide variety of ethnic foods, big snows and the life style. Still have a sister in West Mifflin (D. Hornfeck), another one in E. McKeesport (L. Wilson-Merschat), a brother in Greensburg (B. Wilson) and a nephew in Glassport (J. Pellecchia). The rest of the family is deceased or moved to other states. I visit 2 or 3 times a year for a few days as my work schedule permits. Would love to locate some of the 'old gang' and get together with them on one of my trips this summer. Does anyone know the whereabouts of Bill Spoonhoward, Bobby Foster, Janet Dalota-Flaherty and husband Jim, Jimmy Bradley, Billie Jean Lickert-Harper? There are too many to list here, but I've not seen anything written from them on the McKeesport site. Hope to make it to the alumni picnic at Renzie this year and meet some of you that I don't know.

    1. [PAMCKEESPORT] Roll Call
    2. Hello List, Although a former resident of Clairton and a graduate of Clairton High School (1960), not a resident of McKeesport, I have very fond memories of McKeesport. I worked at The Famous in the summer of 1960 and attended the Ken and Jean Dance Studio for several years during the 1950s. My roots are deep in the area. My 2X great grandparents STEN/STONE came from Sweden to McKeesport in 1892, but they were preceded by all of their children, many of whom worked and resided in McKeesport. My great grandparents JOHNSON, resided at two different locations on Willow Street during the early 1900s. Great grandfather, Joseph E. NORRIS, was a policeman/police chief, in Glassport, from 1901 to 1905. Having recently retired from 32.5 years of teaching, in another state, I am enjoying the teacher comments. Researching the following names in the McKeesport area: BARNES, BROWN, JOHNSON, NORRIS, RHINE, and STONE. Betsy NORRIS Banzen Venice, FL JRBEAB@aol.com

    1. [PAMCKEESPORT] School & Teacher Project Started
    2. Greetings, Thanks to Marc Stauffer, Donna and others, I have started the School & Teacher Project. I have added a menu item to my main page under the "Human Clicky" thing. The direct URL is: http://www.geocities.com/geojenk/schools.html I have started with Francis McClure Jr. High School. I will be adding others. I am depending on you listers to give me the info to add as we fill in the blanks and correct errors. I would prefer that this project unfold in the newsletter as this will help in jogging memories versus emails to me. This way all subscribers will be able to participate and that will give us wider access to bits of information. No info is too trivial to include. As this project unfolds, please be sure to let us know of any errors you find. If a teacher was at multiple schools, I will put them in the other school also. As the project progresses, please feel free to send any pictures with the named teacher in it. Thanks in advance for all the participation. I hope this will be enjoyed by all!!! Blessings, George Jenkins

    3. Dear George: To the best of my knowledge the school districts who fed students into the McKeesport Area High School but who had separate School Districts for their Elementary and Jr. High Students - and instead of vouchers we got tuition slips were: White Oak - Versailles Township School District: Jack's Run School - to best of my knowledge all attendees from there are now deceased but perhaps one or two are left. I have a picture of the last teacher at Jacks Run - Miss Christine Marks and Superintendents from Mrs. Opperman, Dr. Garwood, Leland Park DeWoody, Lawrence Byron being the last superintendent - there are the superintendents from the 1930's and 1940's that I'm missing. Bryn Mar - closed about 1960 Lincoln Greenwood White Oak Francis McClure. Other School Districts merged into McKeesport Area School District mandated by state law in 1960 were: Versailles Boro GreenOak-Boston Christy Park Port Vue Dravosburg Plus: All Schools in the City of McKeesport Proper: Teachers who I remember teaching at various schools but my memory fails to sort them all out but perhaps will jog some other peoples memories: Mrs. Manuel - 1st Grade Lincoln Mrs. Mellinger - 1st Grade Lincoln Mrs. Paul - 2nd Grade Lincoln Mrs. Boot - 3rd Grade Lincoln Mrs. Donnelly - 4th Grade Lincoln Mrs. Dawson - 5th Grade Greenwood Mrs. Boax - 6th Grade Greenwood Miss O'Toole - Lincoln Mrs. Kaltrider - math - White Oak and Francis McClure Miss Wire - science - White Oak and Francis McClure Miss Elster - music at all White Oak - Versailles Twp. 3. OK Web Fans......Does anyone remember Coach Guyot (MASHS) probably 1966 > time frame? Well for those of you that do remember him and the edge of the seat thrillers both the Tiger Football and Basketball teams took us through, he is alive and kicking here in relaxing atmosphere of Jacksonville, NC home of the United States Marine Corps Camp Lejeune. Several years ago, my family and I were in a local Pizza Hut and who should I see sitting accross from me! Coach Guyot! Of all the places. I went over and introducted myself and he was just as surprised. We have crossed paths off and on over the years because he has been a frequent flyer at the base golf course and I was an active duty Marine until 1997 when I retired. Let me dust the cobwebs and maybe I can come up with some others! Later Chuck Ballas (Yes, Ellen's Son! George) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
