Old St. Josephs is the original Catholic cemetery in McKeesport.It adjoined Fairview. Both cemeteries were altered when the city put Coursin St right down the middile between them. Because they were so small two more cemeteries were eventually opened: McKeesport-Versailles Cemetery, and New St Josephs out on Route 30. My mother was buried in Fairview Cemetery in November 2002 next to my father, BOYD grandparents, and BOYD great grandparents. At no time in the last several years have I found the grass "overgrown" There is a weather worn GAR grave marker next to my family's plot to the left of the dirt lane that runs the length of the center of the cemetery. I do not recall the man's name but the caretaker who lives there, probably does so rent free. He still has a deck of file cards that contain the records of burial. The Heritage Center has a transcript that was made several years back. I suggest a note to the center with an offer to pay for the search, and they can search for the records in the Daily News microfilms which were almost completely indexed at the time I moved south in 1999 as well as the cemetery transcript.
