REDMOND, EX-RESTAURANT OWNER Arthur G. Redmond, the former owner of the Penn Dutch Restaurant on Dania Beach Boulevard, died Friday in Tucson, Ariz. He was 85. Mr. Redmond owned the restaurant for about 20 years starting in the late 1950s, said his son Richard, 47. "I was only 3 years old when he started it," Richard Redmond said. Mr. Redmond was born in 1905 in Bradford, Pa., and came to Dania in the 1940s. He moved to Tucson about four months ago. The Penn Dutch Restaurant was well known for hearty cooking in the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. Mr. Redmond and his wife often worked in the kitchen, where Mrs. Redmond would bake pies and Mr. Redmond would cook his specialties: roast pork and roast beef. During Redmond's tenure at the Penn Dutch, the restaurant became a Dania institution, Richard Redmond said. "He was one of the best," Richard Redmond said of his father's cooking. Besides son Richard, Mr. Redmond is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. Redmond, also of Tucson; one daughter, Trudy; two other sons, Arthur Jr. and Pete; and 10 grandchildren.
