NELSON Longtime Wasilla resident George Everett Nelson, 71, died Jan. 11 at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, Va. A memorial service will be held this week at Fort Monroe, Hampton, Va., and at a later date in Wasilla. Mr. Nelson was born in Bradford, Pa., he was a 1940 graduate of Leesburg High School, Leesburg, Fla. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II. Mr. Nelson and had spent most of his adult life in Alaska, and homesteaded in the Matanuska Valley area. He had been employed as a sheetmetal worker in the heating and air- conditioning field, and also as a well driller. Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Velma of Wasilla; his daughters, Reta Lawrence of Hampton, Va., and Susan Niep of Chitina; his sons, Dennis of Tacoma, Wash., Gary of Herndon, Va., Francis of Palmer and Daniel Keyes; his sisters, Jacqueline Sewell and Jean Dann of Moose Pass, Carol McCall of Umatilla, Fla., and Virginia Getford of Eustis, Fla.; his brother, William of Leesburg, Fla.; and 19 grandchildren.
