McEvoy, Cuneo Press President Charles L. McEvoy, the former head of Cuneo Press, died Saturday in Central Du Page Hospital, Winfield. He was 76. A North Side resident, Mr. McEvoy was president and chief operating officer of the now-defunct company - a commercial printer of newspaper supplements, books and major magazines - from 1972 to 1989. At one time, Cuneo was one of the nation's largest printing companies, printing Time, Life, Saturday Evening Post and 30 other magazines. In 1947, he joined Neo-Gravure, a Cuneo subsidiary, as a customer contact man. He served as assistant general manager and general manager before becoming vice president of sales in 1954. In 1973, he was elected president and chief operating officer of the parent company after serving as president of Neo-Gravure. A native of Bradford, Pa., he was graduated from Xavier University, Cincinnati. He began studying law at Northwestern University but eventually got a law degree at Chicago-Kent College of Law of Illinois. He also attended the Foreign Service Program at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. During World War II, he served in the Pacific with the Army. Mr. McEvoy was the current vice president of the Cuneo Foundation, a private charitable trust, and a board member of the Catholic Charities of Chicago and Boy Scouts of America. He was past president of Chicago Golf Club, Wheaton. He leaves his wife, Rosemary; a sister, Mary Ellen Marrow; and two brothers, L. Carle and John. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Donnellan Funeral Home, 10045 Skokie Blvd., Skokie. Mass will be offered at 11 a.m. tomorrow in Assumption Catholic Church, 323 W. Illinois St., Chicago. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, 301 Chicago Ave., Evanston.
