    1. [PAMCKEAN] Coroner's Inquests.
    2. Mike
    3. The Cameron County Prothonotary spoke at our Genealogy Club Meeting this past Saturday. He introduced us to a resource that I had not been aware of and I thought that some of you might not be either. They are the Oyer and Terminer, a/k/a Quarter Session papers housed in the Clerk of Courts section of your County Courthouse - the Prothonotary's Office in Cameron County. Most of these papers were generated from criminal cases, but they also contain the Coroner's Inquisitions, at least in Cameron County. This is a new source of death information that goes back to 1861 here and is proving to be a valuable source of information that had not been previously used here. We are finding that not every death was investigated. We are also finding relatives who had scrapes with the law! If nothing else, they are great reading! One guy "under the influence of the Devil" murdered his wife, an accused lover and himself. Natural causes of death were deemed, "visits from God." Some have very gory details, especially if they were crushed by a train, which seemed to be common in the 1870's & 80's. Anyway...hopefully this may help someone.
