Can anyone on the list provide any informtion on the existence of the Bon Air Sanitorium circa 1910? I belive it was located in Foster Township, but not sure. Thanks for any assistance.
Hi Sally Costik, curator of the Bradford Landmark Society, included a picture of the Bon Air Tuberculosis Sanitarium in her second book, "Around Bradford" in the Images of America collection on page 62. This is the caption for the picture, "The Bon Air Tuberculosis Sanitarium, c. 1916. Founded in 1908, this tuberculosis sanitarium was located just 6 miles east of Bradford, at Bell's Camp, Pennsylvania. In 1916 there were 32 patients listed. The neighboring Cattaraugus County sanitarium , Rocky Crest, was built in the early 1920s just up the road at Rock City. With tuberculosis on the increase, such facilities were a regretful necessity." I don't know how much more info Sally has about the sanitarium but you might try contacting her at the Bradford Landmark Society, 45 E. Corydon Street, Bradford, PA 16701, phone is 814-362-3906 and they are normally there on M-W-F from 11 am to 2 pm. They have a site that you may find interesting at http://bradfordlandmark.org/ Katie
