Surnames: ESSINGTON, STEWART Classification: Obituary Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/ZaB.2ACE/1452 Message Board Post: Lorain (OH) Morning Journal, May 13, 2001 WASHBURN, Wis. -- Virginia Stewart (nee Essington), 89, of Washburn, Wis., formerly of Lorain, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2001, at Northern Lights Health Care Center in Washburn. She was born May 27, 1912 in Bradford, Pa. She moved to Washburn in 1999 from Lorain, where she had lived for 50 years. Mrs. Stewart attended public school and beauty school in Bradford, Pa. She and her mother operated a beauty shop in Bradford for almost 20 years. She graduated from Red Cross nurse's aide training during World War II, and along with other graduates, replaced Bradford Hospital nurses who were serving abroad in the military. Bradford Hospital had just been built, and the aides made the first beds to open the facility. Mrs. Stewart was active in Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, PTA, church work and other volunteer activities in Ohio. Survivors include her son, Dr. John Miller Stewart of Washburn; one grandson, one great-grandson and a niece. She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years, James A. Stewart, in 1988; daughter, Susan Potprocky in 1991; her parents, John and Florence (nee Loomis) Essington; sister, Elizabeth Sisley; and a nephew. Friends may call Friday 5 to 7 p.m. at the home of her son, Dr. John Stewart, 810 Washington Ave., Washburn, Wis. Private services and burial will be at the chapel of Resthaven Memory Gardens, 3700 Center Road, Avon, at a later date. Bratley Funeral Home, Washburn, Wis. is handling arrangements.
