She was born Aug. 2. 1936 in Bradford, Pa., living in Lorain since 1990, when she moved from Cleveland. In 1953 she moved with her family from Pennsylvania to Cleveland, where she attended West Technical High School, Cleveland. Mrs. Whyel had worked at Parma License Bureau of 17 years as head cashier and typist and was due to retire on her 65th birthday in August. She was employed in 1984, by Gerald Feurst, Clerk of Courts Cuyahoga County, in the Title Bureau, and had held several jobs in the Cleveland area following the death of her first husband. She and her friends had formed a lifelong friendship club and called each other ''club girls.'' She enjoyed china-painting and had taught ceramics. Her favorite pastime hobbies included crafts and oval-track stock car racing. Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Gerald G. Whyel; son, Scott Whyuel of LaGrange; daughters Melody Taulbee of Lorain, Gloria Wilson of LaGrange, Erin Phillips of Amherst and Erleane Curtin of LaGrange; 12 grandchildren, six great grandchildren; sister, Sally Windows of Louisiana; and brother, Frank S. Shelvey of Elyria Township. She was preceded in death by her parents John R. Shelvey in 1992 and Phoebe Mae (nee Fargo) Shelvey in 1990. Friends may call Wednesday from 4 p.m. until time of service at 8 p.m. at Garland-Misencik Funeral Home, 851 Park Ave., Amherst. Burial will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
Mary A. Kasaback Friday, September 3, 2004 5:08 PM EDT Mary A. "Ma" Kasaback, 98, of 326 Church Street, Sheffield, died Thursday, September 2, 2004 at Warren Manor, unexpectedly. Born June 28, 1906, in Johnsonburg, she was the daughter of Andrew and Anna Cash Mishenko. In 1926, she married August Kasaback in Johnsonburg. He preceded her in death. She had been a resident of Sheffield since 1926, moving there from Johnsonburg. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, church activities, and the Sheffield Senior Center. She enjoyed gardening, and arts and crafts. Surviving are four daughters, Mary Jane Wagner of Stoneham, Dorothy Hansen and Rita Kasaback, both of Sheffield, and Jean Betzin of Portville, N.Y.; two sons, Martin Kasaback of Sheffield and James Kasaback of Kane; 17 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, John; a daughter, Katherine in infancy; nine brothers; and two sisters. A funeral was held this morning at St. Anthony Church in Sheffield, with The Reverend Ray Gramata, pastor, officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery in Sheffield. Memorial donations may be made to Father Baker's Home for Children in Buffalo, N.Y., or to a charity of the donors choice.
