    1. Obituary Posts to the Message Board

    3. Message Board posts are automically gatewayed to the PA-MCKEAN mailing list, making it convenient for researchers that don't have the time to check the message boards regularly. While I understand that some may become frustrated at the volume of obituaries being posted on the McKean board, and subsequently gatewayed to the list, this is a valuable service. Placing the name of the deceased in the subject line allows for the quick decision on whether to delete the message or to keep it. I believe that asking the compiler to only put the names on the board, and no further data, and then to answer individual email requests for further information is asking too much of the compiler's time, but the decision ultimately rests with the compiler. The compiler is within the scope, and spirit, of the McKean Board guidelines and I would certainly encourage its continuance. I am well aware of the time expended on undertaking such a task and appreciate the efforts being made. Unsubscribing from the list is an option that some may wish to pursue if the obituary posts get to be too bothersome. Maureen M. 3. Perhaps the idea of the mailing list needs to be clarified. The message boards and the mailing list are for the sharing of information related to genealogy. This includes obituaries. All posts to the message boards are gatewayed to the mailing list. There is no system in place for people to pick and choose from the message boards what they wish to receive via the list/email. As I wrote in my last email to the list, if one finds the email to be bothersome I can only suggest that you unsub yourself from the list and look at the message boards as you have the time or inclination to do so. If you are not sure of how to unsub yourself from the list you may send me an email PRIVATELY (sonoranfour@msn.com) and I will manually remove you so that you no longer receive any email related to McKean County. Simply send your email address and request to be unsubbed from the list. Many obits have been posted in the past week or so. I have yet to find an obituary that relates to my research, but the two seconds it takes to read the subject line and click the delete button really isn't taking up valuable time. Probably 60 or 90 seconds total. And, again, I state that the compiler is within the scope and spirit of the boards, and subsequently the mailing list. It is people like this that make research easier for all of us. Maureen M. 3. Ok the standard reply is if you don't like it unsubscribe!!! Did it ever occur to you that some of us or I might what something else from the list at Mckean than a herd of obits. As for my dislikes or likes it was never said that it was or was not in the boundaries of the list usage, only a suggestion that might remove some of the traffic on the list.
