TANNER, CENTENNIAL RUG CHAIRWOMAN There are people who needlepoint. And then there are people who chair the Colorado Centennial Needlepoint Rug Committee. Cara D. Tanner of Greenwood Village was among the latter. She chaired the committee that created a Centennial rug presented to the Colorado Historical Society and placed in the Governor's Mansion library. She also compiled and produced the Centennial Rug Makers' Cookbook, dedicated to the 78 stitchers of the rug. Mrs. Tanner, 72, died April 29 at Aurora Regional Medical Center after suffering heart problems during the preceding year. Mrs. Tanner, born June 2, 1920, in Bradford, Pa., was remembered at a memorial service May 8 at St. Gabriel Episcopal Church in Cherry Hills Village. Per her request, her ashes will be scattered above Loveland Basin Ski Area in the Arapahoe National Forest. Mrs. Tanner was a 1938 graduate of the Madeira School in McLean, Va. She was married Oct. 10, 1948, in Wellesley, Mass., to Donald B. Tanner Jr., a former May D&F executive turned manufacturers' representative. Mrs. Tanner worked for 19 years as vice president of Don Tanner & Associates Inc. In addition to her work on the Centennial rug, Mrs. Tanner was a supporter of the Denver Art Museum, Denver Museum of Natural History, Denver Zoo, Denver Botanic Gardens, KRMA-Channel 6 and Denver Dumb Friends League. Survivors include her husband, who lives in Englewood; her son, D.B. Tanner III of Denver; her daughter, Ann F. Tanner of Denver; a brother, David W. Dennis of Ole Lyme, Conn.; and a sister, Margaret Johnson of Elizabethton, Tenn. Contributions: American Cancer Society, 2255 S.
