    1. [PAMCKEAN] What is known as...
    2. Ivan and Becky Hakes
    3. I have a death certificate back that states the woman Cynthia (nee Davis) ALLEN was buried in Port Allegany Cemetery. What exact cemetery would that be? And who would have the records because she is not listed in any cemetery in the cemetery books. She was born 1 Jan 1920 and died 8 May 1910 in Rixford, Otto Twp., McKean Co., Pennsylvania. Her parents are listed as mother, Katherine GROVER, and father, DAVIS, no first name is given. Thanks, Becky Hakes

    1. [PAMCKEAN] Lester J. PHILLIPS, b.1903, Bradford,McKean,PA
    2. Helen C Davis
    3. Hello Folks, I'm researching for my friend Jim. His father, Lester, (info in subject line) is the son of Lee M. and Emma Schoonover PHILLIPS. Jim's wife called Bradford some years ago an spoke with someone (in an official capacity) who gave her some info about Lester. The person even told the name of the doctor who delivered Lester. My question is this, are there birth records that far back for someone born in Bradford, PA? I realize that most counties started keeping them sometime after 1912, but thought I'd check to see if perhaps there were some earlier records in Bradford. If birth records are available, where do we write to request this information. Do you know the cost? My next step is to find Lee and Emma on the 1900 PA census. It seems that Lester had an older sibling. Thank you for any help or encouragement you could provide. 1. [PAMCKEAN] 1st Club Meeting A Huge success!!
    2. Mike
    3. With many thanks to all of you who helped make it happen, I am happy to announce that the first meeting of the Cameron County Genealogy Club was a huge success with 19 people in attendance! With Friday's fire and the weather, this turnout was much more than we were expecting. In addition to the folks who joined us today, we have received applications from about 30 people who do not live in the area, but who are interested in being a member of the Club and take part in the information exchange that will take place. So we are effectively starting with about 50 members! The meeting started at 1:00 with everyone filling out applications. The information on the applications will be compiled into a database of surnames being researched by the members. This information will be made available on the website and at each meeting. It will also be included in a roster of members that will be made available to the membership in a couple of months. We went around the room and introduced ourselves and talked about the surnames we were researching. I know of at least one connection made, as a couple of people realized they were researching the same names. Expertise ranged from seasoned genealogists to folks just starting out. We anticipate that there will be a variety of topics covered in future meetings to be of use to everyone. We decided on the name "Cameron County Genealogy Club" with a unanimous vote. It was decided that this name was concise and described what we were all about with out further explanation. Thanks to all who submitted ideas for the name. Don Hefright and I touched on a variety of topic through out the meeting- from how to use a Research Log to ideas for future meetings. We talked about our vision for the Club and what could be possible collecting and transcribing data. We talked about future field trips to museums, Family History centers and more. It was also mentioned that an annual event was a popular "to do" item on the application. Don prepared several useful hand-outs including a 4 page list of interview questions to be used in talking with relatives. Business matters included an offer from Don Hefright and I to be co-coordinators of the Club for the first 6 months or so, at which time we would see what further organization would be required. Everyone seemed to like the idea of holding a raffle to offset copying costs and other incidental costs in lieu of dues. Today's raffle was a copy of "Whining Saws and Squealing Flanges". It was won by Chuck Jordan. It was also decided that the first Saturday of each month would work for everyone. The next meeting will be April 5th at 1:00 at the Library. The meeting adjourned at 2:10, but many stayed on for about another half hour visiting with each other. All in all I think that everyone enjoyed themselves and I expect to see most of them back in April. I also anticipate about twice the number of folks for the next meeting as word gets out and the weather clears for the long distance folks. At least one member drove over an hour to be with us today! A special thanks to Wendy Davis for taking notes during the meeting! I would like to thank Don Hefright for all of his help in making this idea come to life. I truly appreciate his partnership and his ideas. I would like to thank the folks at the Barbara Moscato-Brown Memorial Library for their enthusiasm about our project and for the use of their excellent meeting room. I would like to thank Bob Hooftallen, editor of the Echo, for his support and his excellent article about the formation of the Club. It was a huge help in getting the word out. I extend an open invitation to those of you reading this to come join us in April! Mike Wennin Come Visit the Cameron County Genealogy Project! http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacamero

    3. Members of the Cameron County Genealogy Club invite you to attend our next monthly meeting on Saturday April 5th at 1:00 PM at the Brown Memorial Library in Emporium. This will be our second meeting and we are expecting 30-40 people. This will be a great opportunity to exchange information from Cameron and surrounding Counties. The meeting will feature the 1870 Vosberg map of Cameron County that includes names of land owners who own 10+ acres. We will also be handing out a roster of current members with the surnames they are researching. Charter Membership is still available up to the meeting date. Applications are available to download from the website listed below. We look forward to seeing you! Mike Wennin Come Visit the Cameron County Genealogy Project! http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacamero

    3. Researchers, I have added the names of the Espoir Masonic Club Ordnance Repair Shops APO #741 in France during World War 1 1918 to the War section of the pages links on the Venango County, PA, McKean County, PA and Ashland County Ohio Genealogy Society sites. It is linked under WAR - WW1 I would have typed it but then it would have been several years before it was put on ;o) so I scanned the images. There will be many more pictures and items linked on the WW1 pages when I have the time to scan. 1. [PAMCKEAN] Kinney
    2. Ivan and Rebecca Hakes
    3. I am researching the Kinney's in McKean County. The problem is their is more than one branch in the county. One branch consisting of people in the Marvindale, Kasson, Hazelhurst, and Clermont area (Hamlin Twp.). This would be Timothy and Sarah Milthorpe Kinney and their children, Louisa (William Dutcher no children), Caroline or Carrie (Andrew Perry and children), Alice F., William Morris (Maggie Block), Julia Elvira (Stone), Lucy E. William Morris Kinney's children are James, Elmer Ray (Alice Marie Sheldon), Lillian Mae (Patrick Joseph Foley, Sr.) Frank Edward (Margaret Magee), Charles W. and Alma M. (Burnell DuChanois). I descend from Lillian Mae Kinney and Patrick Joseph Foley, Sr.. But to my problem area...Their are Kinney's in the Port Allegany, Liberty and Annin Twps. I have a George Kinney, born 1846 married on 24 December 1877 to Rachel Rose Clark born 8 Apr 1858 daughter of Peter Thomas Clark and Eliza Jane EARLY. For both of them, this marriage is their second...At this point, I have no clue as to who George Kinney married first, but from his first marriage came son Luther J. with wife Hettie. From the census, Rachel Rose Clark's first husband's last name should be STODDARD because of a George Stoddard is listed as step-son to George Kinney. Together Rachel Rose and George Kinney had son Myrl or Merrill with wife Lottie and several children. Right next to George Kinney in the 1880 census is a Henry M. Kinney with wife Wealthy Simpson and children Miles and Geoffrey and nephew Charles. Are these two Kinney families related? And their are many more Kinney's in the Annin Twp., Liberty Twp., and Port Allegany area. Does anyone have anything that might help tie some more Kinney families together? Thanx in advance Becky Hakes

    3. Hi all, Stopping in to say "Hi" and let you know the McKean County PAGenWeb site could use any donations of information to help genealogists. The Bradford Oakhill cemetery project is coming along nicely. There are still 3 J.H. Beers townships yet to be transcribed...Bradford, Wetmore, and Keating, if anyone has the book and would be willing. If you have a high school year book, names might be helpful to genealogists. Also old newspaper articles can be interesting. http://www.rootsweb.com/~pamckean/ The site is volunteer. 1. [PAMCKEAN] Happenings in the Hills
    2. The Lee Family
    3. Greetings! I'd like to invite you to check out my Web site - geared toward the history and genealogy of the Pennsylvania counties of McKean and Potter, and the New York counties of Allegany and Cattaraugus. Many have asked me to put something up - so here it is: www.happeningsinthehills.com. My site covers the four counties - census records, cemetery lists, history, vital records, photos, lists of societies, etc. I've also added a few items that I think make the site unique: Two Recommended Reading pages - one for works still available in print, the second for rare, out-of-print books that I recommend. The Calendar of Events lists activities being hosted by various genealogy and historical groups in the area. Anybody is free to post their event so if you belong to a group, or know of one, that needs a little publicity simply send them my way. History's Mysteries is a page of photos that I know very little about - maybe one of you can help. I'll have a monthly chat on various topics. Speakers for the next few months have been scheduled. If you'd like to be entered in the drawing for a free book simply sign the guestbook. I'll announce the winner at the first chat, in April. This idea of a drawing seems to be pretty popular, so probably for the first year I'll have a drawing each month. As you look over my site I would like to remind you that I am not a club or a society or a group. It's just me and it's been a lot of work thus far, and will continue to be. If you don't see something up right away please remember this. I am planning to update the site each Saturday night, so check back often to see what's been added. If you'd like to submit something please send me an email detailing the submission and I'll let you know if I can accept it. Anything genealogy or history related is fine. I would also like to add that there is no charge for my site. Happy Hunting! Maureen M. Lee maureen@happeningsinthehills.com http://www.happeningsinthehills.com

It offers a ton of information not found on the local sights I've seen, and it's free to all. Make sure you sign the guest book, they will enter you in a drawing for a free genealogy book!!!! Maureen Lee, the person in charge of creating this great sight, is a professional genealogist. I'm sure a lot of you have been in personal contact with her. That alone should let you know what a great sight this is and what a stickler she is about her information. Well, I'm back to finish looking around!!!! Hope you all enjoy it as much as I am!!! 3. Hi Sally Costik, curator of the Bradford Landmark Society, included a picture of the Bon Air Tuberculosis Sanitarium in her second book, "Around Bradford" in the Images of America collection on page 62. This is the caption for the picture, "The Bon Air Tuberculosis Sanitarium, c. 1916. Founded in 1908, this tuberculosis sanitarium was located just 6 miles east of Bradford, at Bell's Camp, Pennsylvania. In 1916 there were 32 patients listed. The neighboring Cattaraugus County sanitarium , Rocky Crest, was built in the early 1920s just up the road at Rock City. With tuberculosis on the increase, such facilities were a regretful necessity." I don't know how much more info Sally has about the sanitarium but you might try contacting her at the Bradford Landmark Society, 45 E. Corydon Street, Bradford, PA 16701, phone is 814-362-3906 and they are normally there on M-W-F from 11 am to 2 pm.
