    1. [PAMCKEAN] WWII Veterans Registry ~ American Battle Monuments Commission
    2. The Lee Family
    3. Happy Fourth of July! I read the following on www.cnn.com yesterday (7/3/2003) and thought it should be passed on. Please take a moment to search the database (very easy!) and if your WWII family member is not listed please list them. It's a free service and any family member or friend may register the veteran. And don't forget to forward this email. Of the 16 million Americans who served only 1.3 million names have been submitted to the registry. All of the information is in the following article. * * * * * WASHINGTON (AP) - Americans who served in World War II or supported the war effort at home can now add their names to an online registry. Organized by the American Battle Monuments Commission, the Web-based list is an effort to extend recognition to as many as 16 million Americans who served in uniform during the Second World War. It is being launched almost a year before the dedication of the first national monument to World War II veterans, slated for May 29, 2004 - Memorial Day weekend - on the National Mall. The registry is open not only to veterans, but to "any American that served in the armed forces or contributed to the war effort on the home front, whether in factories and shipyards or farms and neighborhoods," the commission said in a news release. The registry is accessible on the National World War II Memorial Web site - www.wwiimemorial.com - or by calling the commission toll-free at 1-800-639-4WW2. Anyone can submit names and registration is free. Previous efforts to gather names for the registry "barely scratched the surface," collecting only 1.3 million names over the past several years, said Mike Conley, a spokesman for the commission. Of those, nearly 700,000 names were submitted by the public. The rest were culled from public records, including casualties listed by the National Archives and Recods Administration and the commission's own lists of veterans buried in its overseas cemeteries or included on its Tablets of the Missing. "We're making the registry available now, prior to the dedication, to encourage more enrollments," Conley said. President Clinton authorized the memorial in 1993. Construction on the site, opposite the Reflecting Pool from the Lincoln Memorial, began in September 2001. When complete, the memorial will consist of a plaza and a pool bordered by granite pillars and 24 bronze bas-relief panels with scenes from America during the war. Unlike the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, the World War II memorial will not bear any veterans' names. More than 400,000 Americans died in World War II, more than six times the number of veterans whose names appear on the Vietnam memorial. * * * * * Maureen M. 2. There is a book in the Hamlin Library that has cemetery listings. Individual names and plot numbers are listed. I was fortunate to find a few of my relatives there on a visit last year. The book is titled: Cemeteries in McKean County. Laurie is quite helpful. Hope this helps. Good luck in your search. bev

    3. Does anyone know of a complete listing of the Grimes Cemetery and if so where can I obtain this? I know there is a list on the site but I have about 10 people that are apparently not listed. Could this be because it is an old withered away cemetery? Thank you, Donna

    3. Fairview Cemetery is the larger of the cemeteries in Port Allegany. Alvin Anderson is the caretaker (814/642.9249) and he probably has the best list. There is also a Catholic cemetery just north of town. Maureen M. 3. I am interested in finding the sale of property in Ceres in 1819/20 by John or Abram George SIVERLY. Both had property to sell in July 1819 when A. G.'s son, John, stayed there to sell both properties. They moved on to Venango Co., PA. I have searched the records for Allegany Co., NY, but have come up with nothing. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Connie Siverly Ferguson

    1. [PAMCKEAN] Grantier, Keltz, Chandler
    2. Pat Heitner
    3. We have been researching our gg-grandparents and need some help. Grantier Family: gg-grandma Alice Grantier was born January 1849 in Roaring Branch, Pa. Her father was John Grantier. She had two brothers that we know of; Charles Grantier and T.B. Grantier. She married John/Henry Keltz. They had 3 children; Minnie (my grandmother), Celia & Henry. There are a few John Grantier, so I am searching for her mother's name. Plus any information on my ggg-grandparents. Keltz Family: gg-grandpa Henry Keltz I have little information. His first name could also be John Keltz. I was told he had brothers; George, Samuel & Eli but at this point we are at a dead end. I think he also had a couple sisters. I know that he died Dec. 1901 probably in McKean County, Norwich township. Complete dead end without more information. I think Grandma was 2nd wife. Chandler Family: Grandma Minnie married Berton Chandler (son of Charles & Elizabeth Willoboughy Chandler). His 1st wife was Melinda Munn, they had a large family. Grandma & Grandpa had Claude, Clifton, and my Mom Captolia Chandler in Norwich Township in the late 1800's the last being born in 1904. Any information on these three families would be greatly appreciated. Pat Heitner path@haics.com Florida
