    3. Aloha list: I'm the great-great-great-grandson of Joab and Chloe Stafford, and I'm trying to get some information about the family. Here's what I know: Joab Stafford was born in Pennsylvania abt. 1818. Chloe (maiden name unknown) was born in NY abt. 1821. Henry M. Stafford, their first child, was born in PA in 1842. The family moved to Dryden, MI between 1842 and 1850. Records I have found indicate that Henry was born in McKean, PA. I think that probably means McKean Twp, not McKean County, but I can't be sure of that. Any information you might have about Joab, Chloe or Henry would be greatly appreciated. Geoff Stafford

    3. I tried posting a reply on ancestry.com but it failed to accept it (cannot find server). The first McKean County courthouse was torn down in 1850. The following year, 1851, the second courthouse was erected. It was torn down in 1879 to make way for the third courthouse. Births and deaths from 1892 - 31 December 1905 are on file at the county level (McKean County Orphans Court). Effective 1 January 1906 all births and deaths were filed at the state level (PA Vital Records). Marriages, however, continue to be a county affair and the Orphans Court has those to the present.     3. The Bradford Era's online edition of Tuesday, July 22, 2003 carries the stories, and photos, of the Kinzua Viaduct's collapse. Some of you may have had ancestors who worked on this famous structure so I am including the newspaper's URL: http://www.bradfordera.com in the event you'd like to read a little history of the bridge. The photos are amazing. It's a tragedy to the area to lose something with this much history and something that is so historically significant. I've visited the bridge many times over the years.
