    3. I am new to your list, and would like to pass this on to your list members if they have not already seen this from the Muncy Historical Society. This would honor those "forgotten" civil war soldiers whose names were not on the original monument. My ancestor was William MECUM and I will be honoring him. Many other familiar names are included such as SONES, STARR, etc. Please read article below. thanks, Gwen MECUM Hunt --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Soldier's Monument Circle of Heroes The June 23, 1869 Muncy Luminary carried an article excerpted as follows: "The following list of soldiers from Muncy and vicinity, who fell in the late war [Civil War], is published in order that friends and relatives may correct any errors .. .If the names of any have been overlooked it is hoped that they will be furnished without delay ... Those interested should attend to this at once, as the marble is ready for the inscriptions. Friends and relatives of 71 men and boys from the borough of Muncy and eight townships - Brady, Clinton, Franklin, Moreland, Muncy Creek, Muncy, Plunkett's Creek, and Wolf - responded. Their names were inscribed on the Soldiers' Monument some 140 years ago. Dave Richards, author of Priceless Treasures, introduced us to the names of another 47 men and boys, who, for whatever reasons, were omitted from the monument. The names of two more young men from our vicinity have been added to this list since Priceless Treasures was published in late 2001. Working with the board of the Muncy Cemetery and a local stone designer, the Muncy Historical Society has chosen a landscaping design to surround the base of the Soldiers' Monument. The designer will install a brick-paved mound around the Civil War monument. Within a portion of the concentric circles, 6 by 9-inch bricks will he placed to accommodate nseriptinns. The design allows for additional inscriptions if more Civil War casualties are identified Subscriptions are now being offered to "friends, relatives, Civil War historians and other interested parties" so that the missing names can be placed appropriately with those of their comrades and patriots. You now have an opportunity to support this long-overdue memorial effort and to purchase an "imprinted" brick. The following Civil War soldiers need sponsors for their 6 x 9-inch imprinted brick ... the cost is $40 each: Artley, Teter, Wolf Twp. Ball, John, Moreland Twp. Barrett, William, Penn Twp.
