Hi All, Anyone on this list know about the William Maze who is listed as a carpenter in the 1800 Lycoming Township tax assessment? Hi Ashley, Frpm my understanding, this Samuel was born in Pa, in 1850. At this point, I'm not sure of any other Samuel's, but if I come across any, I'll send them your way. Tammy, The only sure information I have on my Samuel MILLER is from the 1880 census. He was 42 years old then, born in NY, occupation carpenter. This gives a birth year of 1838 approximately. I don't find him on the MIracode census, so he may have died in middle age. However, I don't have a death date either. Does this look familiar? I did recently find a Samuel Miller of 1839 to 1882, but his wife is a WINE and the children have the wrong names. Tammy, How old was your Samuel Miller in 1860? I'm trying to find out more about my grandfather's grandfather, Samuel MILLER, born about 1838 in New York state, later living in Schuykill county, PA. Charlie, Although I have not tried the following, it should work for your umlaut. It was sent to me by a friend in regards to the marking in French. About the accent marks in French . . . It is really easy to get them or any other diacritical mark you want. Here's what you do: 1)Click on your "start" button. 2)Go to "programs" 3)Go to "accessories" 4)Go to "system tools" 5)Go to "character map" 6)Once you get the character map you can click on any symbol that you want, and in the lower right hand corner it tells you which keys to hit to get the symbol you want. The diacritic you are looking for is spelled U-M-L-A-U-T and pronounced something like oom-lout.

charlie, check your character map, (system tools), choose your aumlat for "a" or "o", for example, and it will tell you what sequence of keys to enter to get the particular letter with that designation.

Charlie, If that doesn't work, use the "Character Map" application that comes with Windows 95 and higher. It can be found by going to START - Programs - Accessories - Character Map. It is also sometimes located under System Tools from Accessories. Select the font that you are using, most likely Times Roman or Arial and then scroll through the list of characters, until you find what you are looking for. Click on it, then click Select, then Copy, it is now copied to the clipboard and you can switch back to your application and do a <CTRL>-V to paste it where you need it.
