Any suggestions as to which library or archive to inquire as to marriage records during the 1775 time period in the Muncy Twp. area??? Judy [email protected]
Hi List Members, This is my first time on this list. I am trying to find the family names and information on the James & Margaret Newman Hampton family. Oldest son, Jonathan, born 1775 in Muncy Twp, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. Would anyone happen to know what churches were in the area during that time period; and where, perhaps I might find marriage records for that time period and area?? Would appreciate any suggestion on where I might look. Thank you, Judy [email protected]
I posted a message weeks ago looking for information about the WEISSEL (WEISEL) family. All I knew then was that my father descends from Catherine WEISSEL (1793-1869) from Tohickon Union Church who married William BALL in Hepburn Twp, Lycoming Co, PA. And that my mother descends from Catharine WEISSEL (1782-1851) from Tohickon Union Church who married Abraham ADERHOLD in Bedminster Twp, Bucks Co, PA and later moved to Hepburn Twp, Lycoming Co, PA. Since then, I learned that Catherine WEISSEL BALL is the daughter of George WEISSEL and Elizabeth HOENIG and was born into the Tohickon Union Church, Bedminster Twp, Bucks Co, PA. Later, but before marriage, she moved with her family to Hepburn Twp, Lycoming Co, PA. Her family is buried in the Quaker Hill Cemetery in Eldred Twp, Lycoming Co, PA. as are several generations of her descendents. I still cannot identify the parents of Catharine WEISSEL ADERHOLD. She and her husband, Abraham ADERHOLD, certainly attended Tohickon Union Church. At least their second and third children's birth and baptism are recorded in the church records. Additionally, Abraham ADERHOLD's siblings attended Tohickon, there being records of marriages and births. There is a large WEISSEL family in the church over several generations as well. I have found little evidence of ADERHOLD or WEISSEL families outside the Tohickon Union Church in this time period. I've done about as much as I can with church records available to me to trace relationships, and I still cannot find how Catharine WEISSEL ADERHOLD (1782-1851) fits in the WEISSEL family. If anyone else has records for this family, I would be pleased to share information. Thank you. ******************************************** Harold and Cheryl Bower 2002 North Florida Avenue Tampa FL 33602-2204 [email protected] ******************************************** Descendents of English Quakers, Germans from Palatinate, East Prussia, and Wurttemberg, and Dunkards from Mohringen who founded the Blooming Grove Colony in Hepburn Township, Lycoming County, Pennsylvania. ******************************************** Surnames: BAUER/BOWER, SITLER, WRIGHT, BEACH, FAHLFEDER, MILHEIM, MOYER, SHAFER, PETRIKS, FISHER, LUDWIG, BIDELSPACHER, WALTZ, WURSTER, METZGER, HEIM, BLAKER, PIDCOE, MARTZ, SHEETS, BALL, MILLER, FRIEDERICH, GREENE, ADERHOLD, STOLTZ, ORICH, GUINTER, WAGNER and WEISSEL ********************************************
Can anyone help me with this family? Jim Miller, Osceola, IA W1 - George Walton1 - born in 1791 in Pennsylvania and died on 8 MAR 1865 in Decatur County, Iowa. He married MRS. MARTHA (-----) THORPE, who was born in 1783 in New Jersey and died on 11 MAY 1857 in Decatur County, Iowa. They are both buried in Leon Cemetery, Leon, Decatur County, Iowa. George & Martha are known to have resided in Williamsport, Lycoming Co., PA in 1816, and about 1821-2 the family removed to Marion County, Ohio.. After son Henry married in 1838 he removed to Jasper Co., Indiana and George & Martha Walton may have also moved their with their son, before finally removing to Decatur County, Iowa sometime after October 1853. In the 1830 census for Tully Twsp., Marrion Co., OH, George (30-40) & Martha (20-30) Walton are listed with 1 male under 5, 1 male 5-10, 1 male 10-15, 1 male 15-20, 1 female under 5, 1 female 5-10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 40-50. In 1838 he was married to ELIZABETH CLARK, a native of Wayne County, Ohio, who was born on 22 MAY 1815. They removed to Jasper County, Indiana in 1847 and then in 1853 removed to Decatur County, Iowa with his brothers, Simon & George, and his half-brother, John Thorp. Henry settled there in Eden Twsp. and immediately returned to Indiana for his wife and eight children (2 sons & 6 daughters). He remained on this farm for 22 years & purchased a claim on sections 3 & 4 of 320 acres, for which he paid $660. It was a very desirable location, consisting of both prairie and timberland. Here in this pleasant home his children grew to maturity. In 1875 he exchanged his farm for one in Center Twsp. and in 1886 rented out his farm and moved into the town of Leon, in Decatur County. Elizabeth (Clark) Walton died at her home in Center Twsp., Decatur Co., IA on 23 OCT 1884. Funeral services were held for at her late residence by W. H. Shipman and she was buried at Chastain Cemetery. Henry L. Walton married secondly in 1885 to LIZZIE (LUCY?) LOVING, daughter of John Loving, who lived but a short time afterwards. He died suddenly early in the morning of Friday, 9 AUG 1894, near the residence of his son-in-law, Henry Oney, in Eden Twsp., Decatur Co., IA. While engaged in watering a horse at a well which was located about a quarter mile fromthe house, he was seized with hemorrhage of the lungs and died almost instantly. Mrs. William Fletcher saw his fall, but it was when the neighbors reached him it was too late. He had been in poor helth for some time, but had shown some improvement and had gone to town the day before hid death. Funeral services for Henry Lenhart Walton were held by Rev. G. M. Hughes at the home of Henry Oney after which he was laid to rest by the Masonic Fraternity, of which he had long been a member, at Chastain Cemetery. WALTON children3: 1. Does anyone know where I can get info regarding the local German papers of Williamsport - The National Demokrat and the Susquehanna Zeiting? According to the local directory they were being printed in 1870-1871 but the JVB Library does not have copies. Any WOLFE ancestors in Lycoming? Mine lived there in early-mid 1800's. Kathy
To Harold Bower I have read your postings and believe we are distant cousins. I emailed you when I saw on the RootsWeb listings that you were researching but you did not answer. I am a descendent of Amos Wright who married Mary English. He was a brother to your ggg grandfather Benjamin. I have considerable information on the descendents of Amos as well as some of the others. I also am sharing information with a descendent of Thomas who was married to Ann English. So we have all his information also. I am also sharing with another descendent of Amos's who has done extensive research but is not very organized. She thinks she has found the parents of the first Amos. She thought Aden was a brother to Benj, Thomas and Amos. We did not know Benj had been married before Eunice and Aden was too old to have been her son. I'll be glad to share my information with you if you are interested. Margie
I want to take a moment to all of you that responded to my message "I'm Jealous of you all" That message brought me the greatest response I have ever had from a message that I have posted. I have found many leads, new perspective as a result of your messages. Turned out that even a previously unknown distant cousin responded to my message. The input and assistance is phenomenal and I am grateful to all. Some of your messages I will be able to help you with some information and others unfortunately I will not. Please bare with me as I gather information and get back with you. I want to make sure that what I pass on is as accurate as I can make it. Again Thank You all; Bob
Benjamin WRIGHT who married Eunice was my ggg-grandfather. I am a descendent of his eldest son, Aden WRIGHT (1819-1900). Benjamin married someone (currently unknown) in Bucks Co and had at least two children before coming to Lycoming Co. Those children were Aden and Benjamin: Aden WRIGHT (14OCT1819-7MAY1900) m. Cathrine GREENE (14FEB1825-7JAN1897) Benjamin WRIGHT (27DEC1820-25MAR1872) Benjamin WRIGHT then married Eunice Emma FARNSWORTH. Their details are: Benjamin WRIGHT (12APR1794-11DEC1873) Eunice FARNSWORTH (5FEB1807-28JUN1877) m. 5AUG1837 in Upper Fairfield Twp, Lycoming Co, PA Benjamin and Eunice had the following children that I've identified thus far: Robert WRIGHT (1838-1922) m. Catherine A. GRASS (1843-1924) Benjamin F. WRIGHT (1864-1888) C. Edward WRIGHT (1871-1945) William Henry WRIGHT (1877-1971) Rollin T. WRIGHT (1885-1959) Jacob WRIGHT 1840 (nothing more known) William F. WRIGHT (1842-1910) m. Margaret A. (1843-1887) Rosie L. WRIGHT (1875-1889) Second Wife: Sarah Jennie SWEELEY, widow of George BALL Sarah's dates (1849-1904) Phoebe WRIGHT (1847-1919) Maria WRIGHT (1848-1924) Martha Mattie WRIGHT (1850-1917) m. Mr. GEBHART Phoebe, Maria ad Martha are buried in Montoursville Cemetery, Lycoming Co. They share a large monument that was obviously expensive. I don't know why they are all buried together, especially since at least Martha was married. Interestingly, my grandfather, Oscar Aden WRIGHT, descended from Benjamin WRIGHT and his first wife, and my grandmother, Oscar's wife, (Iva Elizabeth MOYER) was a step-daughter to the son of Robert WRIGHT (William Henry WRIGHT 1877-1971), the eldest son of Benjamin and Eunice. I was 16 years old with William WRIGHT (Grandpap Bill) died. I remember him well because he lived with my grandparents, Oscar and Iva. He was one of Eunice's grandsons. I have Elizabeth WRIGHT in my database with a birth date of 1830 and show her married to a Charles FARNSWORTH (1819-1901). She is one of the WRIGHTs I have that I cannot connect to the family we know. Nevertheless, some of our lines are missing children in the generation that came from Bucks. I suspect she is one of those. Her proximity to the rest of the family and that fact that we've not uncovered any unrelated WRIGHTs in Fairfield Twp and environs makes it likely she is one of us. That is, unless, Charles married her from Bucks Co where there were many unrelated WRIGHT families. Benjamin and Eunice are buried in Buckley Cemetery in Upper Fairfield Twp, Lycoming Co. The cemetery is on the road from Montoursville up along Loyalsock Creek toward Loyalsockville. Their stones are barely legible, but I try to get there once a year to clean up a bit. Their son, Robert, is also buried there. Others in this family are buried at Christian Hill Cemetery near Warrensville and in Montoursville Cemetery. I would like to have your information for my database. Also, I would be pleased to send you mine. Can you use a GEDCOM? Also, what name and version is your word processor. I'll email you some reports from the database as well. I think it is easier to have both. I use Family Tree Maker 5.0b, so I can import most any GEDCOM. My word processor is Microsoft Word. I'm glad you wrote. It's always good to find someone else working on the same line. I look forward to hearing from you. I can't answer your question about Benjamin Wright's roots, but will give you info on the only two Wrights in Lycoming Co that I have in my database: Benjamin Wright md Eunice Farnsworth--no dates on either one. Eunice was the daughter of Robert Farnsworth (1782-1822) and Mary Wilkinson (d1823). Elizabeth Wright (no dates) md Charles Farnsworth (1819-1901). Charles was the brother of Eunice, above. I am descended from Mary Wilkinson Farnsworth's sister, Eunice Wilkinson, who married Jacob Konkle. Like your Wrights, the Konkle/Kunkle family is also to have come from Bucks County, but I've had no luck in finding them there. I would be interested in knowing anything you may have on the family of Benjamin Wright and Eunice Farnsworth. And I'll be happy to share anything I have on these families. I only have one GREENE. She was my gg-grandmother, Cathrine GREENE. She was born 14 FEB 1825 and died 7 Jan 1897. She married Aden WRIGHT. That is all I know. She lived in Upper Fairfield Twp, Lycoming Co, PA. There were other GREENEs there, and the sate named a road, GREENE Road, in the area where Cathrine and Aden lived. The road runs through what the old-timers call GREENE Hollow. In making the rounds of cemeteries, there is clearly a GREENE presence along the typical migration path from Bucks and Berks Co's into Lycoming County. You find GREENE burials in the cemeteries along the rivers as they moved up into Lycoming Co. I wish I knew more, but so far I have not found anything else. At that time, there were no civil marriage or death records in Lycoming Co, so there's not much to go on. I have Cathrine's Bible, which gave me her maiden name, but there's not much else of help in it. Mary ENGLISH 12 Oct 1797 - 7 Sep 1855 b. 19 Oct 1790 Mary WRIGHT m. Joseph MILNOR (1795-1867) b. 1796 d. 1836 in Lycoming Co. Thomas WRIGHT m. Ann ENGLISH 12 Jul 1803 - 15 Nov 1889 b. 8 Sep 1796 d. 1833 Ann and Mary ENGLISH were sisters. Rebecca WRIGHT (nothing known) I can find some of these names on the CDs I have, but not all or even a couple of them in one family. It appears that all of the children married in Bucks/Berks before moving up into the "wilderness". I've even tried looking for the spouses surnames, but have not made any connections. All were Quakers. You didn't say when your Benjamin was born but Bucks had a Benj b. 31 May 1765 and d. 1842. He may or may not be the same one who with wife Esther had children in 1798, 1802 and 1812. In Berks Co it lists an earlier Benj, his marriage and children and one of the children was named Benjamin. There was more detail in the records of Exeter MM in Berks. The Bucks records were from Falls MM. If you haven't seen these records and anything looks interesting I can go into more detail. Hello Folks; I have been reading the messages and seeing all of these surnames and I have to admit that you all make me jealous and envious that you have common surnames that are so easy to find and that are well documented. I have a name that I don't think anybody has kept a record of although it has a very ancient origin and at least 44 name variations in the same family line. Laobach, Larsbach, Lashback, Lashbauch, Lashbaug, Lashbaugh, Lashbough, Latzbach, Laubach, Laubaugh, Launchbaugh, Lausbaugh, Lauschbaugh, Laushbaugh, Lawbach, Lobach, Lobaugh, Lohberger, Lohrsbaugh, Lookabach, Lookabaugh, Lorsabaugh, Lorsbach, Lorsback, Lorschbach, Lorshbach, Lorshback, Lorshbag, Lorshbough, Lorshburgh, Lorshpack, Lorspach, Lorspack, Losback, Losbough, Loshbauah, Loshbauch, Loshbaug, Loshbaugh, Loshbauh, Loshbawh, Loshbouch, Loshboug, Loshbough, Loshbough, Loshbug, Loshrough, Lotsbach, Lotspach, Loushbaugh, Loushbough, Lusbaugh, Lushback, Lushbaugh, Lushbouch, Lushbough That is to mention a few. I am at a dead end looking for the parents of Henry Lushbaugh b. 1751. I am at a dead end looking for the children of Johann Conrad Lorsbach b. 1722 and Susanne Herb. Any help would be apprecited Thanks; Bob [email protected]
Harold: Your response to Mary Lou re Fahlfeder/Heim caught my attention when you mentioned that Sarah Heim was married to Thomas A. Blaker. There are some Blaker links to my ancestors although one or two generations earlier, as follows: 1. Jesse Blaker married Hannah Woodley (1805-1893). I have no information about Jesse. 2. The wife of Martin Woodley (1796-1834 and brother of Hannah) was named Ann B. Woodley. The initial "B" could stand for either Bodine or Blaker. Supporting Blaker is the fact that one of their children was named Holland Blaker Woodley and that when Martin died, Enoch W. Blaker was appointed guardian. Do you have any information about possible linkages? Robert in Indiana- On Tue, 5 Jan 1999, Harold E. Dear Mary Lou, Your email address at AOL is bouncing back as "user unknown." I'm not sure which list you saw my original posting, so I'm putting my reply out here. Regarding FAHLFEDER, my great-grandfather came over from Germany in 1908. He was living in Wanne-Eickel near Gelsenkirchen when he left Germany. His family originally came from an area in East Prussia called Lotzen in German at that time and called Gizycko in the Mazury lake region of present day Poland. I have located relatives in Germany and correspond with them. All the male children retained the FAHLFEDER name, but that is not to say that a line earlier on did not drop the FEDER part. Do you know where your FAHL ancestors came from in Germany? Regarding HEIM, I have an Isaac and Mary HEIM (no dates) who were the parents of Sarah M. HEIM (1872-1931). Sarah HEIM married Thomas A. BLAKER (1868-1903). Thomas BLAKER was a younger brother of my gg-grandfather, Albert George BLAKER. Let me know if you see any connections. My Maiden name was FAHL, and am wondering if this could have been shortened in the process of Americanization. I can go back to Dieter FAHL b.1709 in Germany d.8-16-1768. Could this be a connection? My mother's maiden name was HEIM, her grandfather was Issac B. HEIM b.3-16-1857 d.1-4-1937. Does this compare with your HEIM? Mary Lou

I have reached a dead end in my WRIGHT research. I have traced my line back to my ggg-grandfather (Benjamin WRIGHT) and his siblings, but cannot find a link further back. We know that they came from Bucks County into Lycoming County from about 1820 to 1835. We cannot find records of their parents in Bucks County. A cemetery monument raised by Joseph WRIGHT MILNOR near Warrensville, PA, commemorating his parents states that Mary WRIGHT MILNOR was a devout Quaker from Bucks County. Descendents from other lines also recall a Quaker heritage, and in some lines, particularly Thomas and Amos WRIGHT, descendents continued in their Quaker heritage. Benjamin WRIGHT was drafted into the War of 1812 at Fallsington. The WRIGHT siblings and their spouses are: Mary WRIGHT (1796-1836) and Joseph MILNOR (1795-1867) Their son, Joseph WRIGHT MILNOR, born Bucks County 1819 died Eldred Township, Lycoming County, 1893 Amos WRIGHT (1790-?) and Mary (1797-1855) Probably four children born in Bucks County: Charles 1815 Benjamin 1817 Joseph 1821 Hannah 1823 Thomas WRIGHT (1796-1833) and Ann ENGLISH (1803-1889) Benjamin WRIGHT (1794-1873) and First Wife (?) Second Wife: Eunice Emma FARNSWORTH (1807-1877) m. 1837 At least 2 sons to first wife born in Bucks County Aden 1819 Benjamin 1820 Rebecca WRIGHT - Nothing known about her If anyone has come across these folks in your research, your assistance would be sincerely appreciated.
